Sorcerer/Paladin - makes sense?

Unread post by Miyuki »

Hi hi, :)

i've seen those combos on other servers, even with a RDD in it, but RDD is forbidden here.I know. ^^

So i thought of a combination that would even make sense in RP, as in the church od Mystra Sorcerer/Paladin is possible. But does it makes sense in engine for a build, too?

A newbie here but played quite a few NWN1 and also played with builds on the database, Maybe more fuel for the gurus here. Would tensors work on a 26 Sorcerer/ 4 Paladin perhaps?

Or is there better classes to synergise with Sorcerer?

The idea of a Bard/Paladin works well too but it depends on your concept!

Bard/Paladin can't work because of Alignment restrictions...unless you force RP falling from grace.

Sorcerer/Paladin + Eldritch Knight and/or Arcane Scholar is a tried and true gish build. Mechanically it works great, but really take Epic Still Spell fear line so you can cast while armored.

*waves*

Yes, it makes sense, works well and has been done and played (and is being played) a number of times. Paladin 4/EK 10 / ASOC 10 / sorcerer 6 can be a caster in full plate with the divine shield ability which means it can tank almost anything while casting his repertoire (automatic still spell in epic levels as Steve said).

The ability to swing his sword is limited but you can hit things if you go all out on AB buffs, generally though it's a better idea to concentrate on other spells, your spell selection is limited as a sorcerer.

If your priority is to wield a sword a possibility is paladin 3/ EK 10 /sorc 10 / dragonslayer 7 with as much STR as possible.

As for Bard/Paladin there are alignment issues there, you can't do it :)

Good looking answers already, thnaks. :)
But i forgot to mention one thing. Here comes the challenge:

It is not planned as a human. I thought of half-elf for RP-feeling or i could also think about Aasimar.

Does that work with such builds, but without xp-penalties, too?

Half elf is exactly the same as human building wise, except it gets one less feat and for Aasimar paladin is their favored class so .. no problem either.

This is the base palette from which you can tailor to BGTSCC and your own Character idea:

BAB is 22 so with GMW and Greater Heroism you can hit an AB of 31. Let's Assume 22 STR with Bulls STR to hit 26 so your +8 to STR so that is 39 AB, 40 with Haste. Not great, but good enough for mobs. If you get 21 CHA, 24 with a +3 item (or 22/26 with Eagles, but you may not want two stat boosting spells as you also want mirror images and other nice 2nd level spells....I love Blade Weave) you could go Divine Might rather than Shield since honestly if you take the right buff spells you can tank anything even without the extra ~10 AC you would get going the max CHA route.

You could of course still split your spells between buffs and blasts, but would want to focus on stuff avoiding DC's. Bigby spells, IGMS and that kind of thing. Honestly though just Bigby and EDM will probably become your go to method. It's a fun build with good defenses (saves/AC) and good damage. It gives up a bit of offense, but 40 should be enough for you to land a decent number of hits. And of course if you take Weapon Focus and Epic Prowess you are at AB 42 and that's about where Manyshot Archers and IPA STR warriors end up which should be perfectly fine.

Well that sounds good, so it would be a half elf, i think. :) So i spare mysellf the slow leveling with the ECL.

As the link sais, i shall take 6 levels sorcerer first. That sounds pretty hard for me as i never played arcane classes in this place. I often play at times were there is noone for RP or a group to find in the "starter"-areas.

I only tried to play a sorcer but was never able to get over level 1 as the character always was killed by the weakest skeletton even.

Does anyone have tips how to reach higer levels in an acceprable time with a pure sorcerer?

Sleep spell and go to a level 1 area instead of the graveyard, the area along the Chionthar is where you should go. Then sleep things + coup de grace, easy level 1.

If you are planning for a caster sorcerer, it is worthy to consider Archmage instead of EK. Mastery of elements and the SLAs will allow you to deal with the biggest issue of sorcerers which is spell selection.

The first will allow to change the elemental damage of spells like flame arrow, orbs, polar ray, ice storms, while SLAs can give you extra spells that are not in your spellbook.

The tips sounds also good so far. :) What are SLAs?

SLAs are Spell like abilities, feats with which you cast one kind of spell.

The area I'm talking about can be accessed from Wyrm's Crossing bridge map, it's the first area to the east of this map.
