I've surfed some couches in a few countries and would do it again! I'd recommend to message more than just a couple of people (maybe 4-8) so that you can be sure to find a place to stay at. Many couchsurfers don't offer their couch every day of the week, others don't respond, and you will want to be able to still pick someone you think you will get along with.
