When logging on to day I got a Message

"Your armor melodic chainmail has been taken and gold reimbursed"

I got some gold.

THen of course it is gone from my inventory.

I can't find a spot anywhere in the forums that says why this would happen.

Why would my armor suddenly poof and the system give me cash back?

Basically, you have to buy it again!

+4 Mithral chainmail was perceived as too ideal for a merchant item (especially for the price it was sold for) so it was reduced to +3. Or something like that. . .

It was never supposed to be +4. It was approved as +3 AC, but the numbers got implemented wrong when it went live.

I take it every time that a item disappeare has been remove by the bg staff?
