How To Hierophant? Evil Sea Witch Edition.

Going to actually plan out my Umberlant cleric so I know what to do when I actually get chance to play her.

I have a couple of questions though.
  • Does anyone have an example build they'd recommend?
  • Failing that, how do you balance physical stats with DC, skills and still have enough charisma to be a preacher?
  • Does the Thaumaturge cohort have an option to have a water elemental?
Thanks for your help, guys!

Glad to see this is happening. I'll post something when I get home.

Here is my recommendation: Human Cleric (7), Dragonslayer (10), Hierophant (8), Thaumaturge (5)

Pros:

32 CL w/ Spellpower I, II, III from Hierophant
36 DC for Storm of Vengeance (Conjuration)
8th Hierophant level can choose either Gift of the Diety or Inscribe Rune
Evasion from Water Domain
Thaumaturgist for summoning and buffing It, grinding out the Levels
WIS 25 in combination w/ +3 WIS Item gives Level 9 Bonus spell
1d20 + 36 against Spell Resistance checks (Greater Spell Penetration).
2 Epic Spells: Hellball and Gate.

Thaum used to be able to have a cohort of a Water Elemental. There was a hick-up in the last update, and this was removed. But I believe it will come back in the next update.

I'm not much of a builder, but mine is much different in concept than yours.

Is the Thaum pet permanent or does it have a duration?

Once you get Thaumaturge 5 it's permanent.

Steve, bonus 9th level spells are granted with stat mods 28 (+9) & 36 (+13). To get the first you technically only need 23 Wis, +3 item & Spellcasting Prodigy. To get the second you need either 30 Wis, +4 item & Spellcasting Prodigy, or 31 Wis, +3 item & Spellcasting Prodigy. The only real way to build for it is to take 5+ Epic Wisdom feats, which does not leave much room for anything else.

SNIP

I suppose Frost Mage is instead of Thaumaturgist from the nwn2db?

My "pros" notes are in my short hand—the WIS 28 with +3 WIS item means the build ends on 25 natural Wisdom, using a +3 in order to get 28.

And yes, Frost Mage stands in for Thaum (I've ended my earlier post).

Elementals are called via the summon creature spells. Planar Cohort work only with planar binding spells.

I think Gift of the Deity can only be chosen at Hierophant lv10 because it needs Hierophant 9th lv

I will prolly skip Thaum if I can't have a water elemental cohort and Dragonslayer doesn't sound like the RP choice I'd take for this char.

Can I just do Cleric (20), heirophant (10)? My old cleric could solo pretty well at low/midlvl?

Wha starting stats would you use (for a caster?)

Crimson, you can have a water elemental as a cohort as soon as you have Summon Creature VI or higher & Thaumaturge level 5. You can view instructions on how to do this here (Customising Summoned Creatures; click the spoiler!). Note: you don't need to be a thaumaturge to customise all your Summon VI, VII, VIII and IX spells to always create a water elemental. Have fun!

There is a spell all clerics get called "Call Elementals" that summons a number depending on level (you have to pick water elemental).

Also, the spell Whirlpool summons water elementals.

I had considered a 20 cleric/10 hiero build. I'll find it and send it to you.

The Thaumaturge PrC was setup so that a Thaum could have, at the same time: 1 Summons and 1 Bound/Alley Planar.

At the moment, Planar Alley spell no longer gives the option for Elementals. Planar Cohart, the 5th Level feat, states any creature called through a Planar Calling, Biding or Summoning spell will serve the caster permanently (until Rest).

However, this DOES NOT apply to Call Elemental spell, nor the Gate Spell.

So at the moment, even thought the Character Details option as described in the link above still shows you can setup the Level 6 Spell of Planar Alley to always call an Elemental, if you do this, the spell WILL NOT summon anything, just cast and...nothing.

You have to reset the spell from the Level in the Character Details, in order to get the manually choose option.

It would seem that a decision was made that Planar Allay / Binding is to call only from the Outer Planes, while Summoning spells call to the Inner Planes?

If you want to fall down the rabbit hole, I suggest reading this.

I would also suggest that Planar Alley / Binding get back the Elementals. Please.
