State of the Server (2017-2018) - Player Response
For all who want to respond to:
viewtopic.php?p=748566#p748566
When Maecius and Endelyon stopped playing actively, it was a blow (and some others who retired some phenomenal PCs around the same time!). With their sacrifice and with the hard work of all those named and unnamed, I have myself have been around off and on. I admit I thought that things were done for at one point. I'm glad I was wrong.
For those who have dedicated their spare time, for those who have picked up where others left, for us all, cheers! Time for me to grab a beer.
Peace be with you all.

This server allowed me to rekindle my love for FR setting in a playable environment after NWN1 became old and retired.
Thankyou any and all for persisting in this long term team based project.

Thank you to the players and DMs with the continued ideas that is aiding us in a direction to start pushing the envelope, and staff for it's continued investment in this project.
One member in particular, Valefort, has been extremely hard at work on the devel side, landing 334 commits, 45% of the total commits over the past year, squashing bugs, and creating new ones for us to enjoy. If that's not impressive enough, the percent of authorship is a whopping 27% of the scripted codebase under his commits.

It does feel like a bit of a golden age for the server, which is unexpected considering the age of the game. Horray for everyone making it so!!

As someone who has played on and off for many years i can honestly say it is the community that keeps bringing me back again and again, Sometimes life gets in the way and its understandable. I for one am glad to see that despite everything this place keeps on keeping on. I look forward to continuing my adventures on and off! (at least until we get a NWN 3 and i don't mean that god awful MMO)

I am always shocked when I see how terrible the Wargaming community is in comparison.

Thanks a lot indeed! And the paypal finally went through. I tried to donate for some time now, but something of a hick-up seemed always to get in the way.

A shocking abuse of your power to edit threads! (but then what does one expect from a gnome?)
Also, I agree 100%, Vive la France! Vive la Valefort! Vive la BGtSCC!!!!
As an American, I used to think French people were rude and thought they were better than everyone...Having visited there it is true at least in some areas...however, they have good beer as well as wine (obviously), and having a buddy that speaks the language makes like 95% of them lose the attitude!

Re: State of the Server (2017-2018) - Player Response
Despite some concerns about DM activity (that are somewhat legitimate), the server has been more alive these last few months than ever before in my now almost 6 years as a part of this community. With an increased player cap to 96, we still occasionally get a full server and indeed I would say often get above 80 players online.
Bug squashing, server security and stability, a healthy pace of new content has made the server thrive and flourish. Valefort is a big part of the development, it's true. It makes me happy every time I see his name in green.
But I feel Endelyon and Maecius also deserve a huge thanks. Their work is probably less noticeable on the live server, and maybe even here on the forums, because it involves administration and the stability and security of the server, something I think a lot of us may be in danger of almost taking for granted. I used to be a DM during some of the worst DDOS attacks. I remember one event I had to setup at least six times after crashes. It was frustrating for both me and the players who participated. The server still has occasional hickups, I grant, but it is pretty damn stable now.
HDM Ditto recently quoted former HDM Narshe, and I will do so as well:
So thank you all for participating in this very prospering community.

They have to make unpopular decisions sometimes, the HDMs and Admins. It is part of the job, but it tears at you and wears you down. It is a difficult job, partly for that reason. I think it is important to take note of this and realise that their decisions so far have been at the very least part of why the state of the server is this good. And they should be appreciated for the effort, even if we in our limited knowledge sometimes disagree with them.DM Narshe wrote:You're usually the bad guy who has to say "No" or make a "lesser of two evils" decision that SOMEONE will be upset with somewhere. Just part of the job.

Yep, what Deathgrowl said. Completely.
I do just have to ask, Valefort.. man.. where you been all of our lives? I don't know if perhaps I was ignorant to your skills as a developer before, but it feels like you just popped up from a long time community member all of the sudden and are now one of the most prolific AND responsive developers around. Thank you.
I also want to add in Nachti, Dedude, and BMD. You guys helping in the spheres of magic and summons has made this game feel more alive and inspired curiosity in me that I haven't bad here in a long time. More to come and I can't wait.
The development and content is definitely in a golden age right now!
Oh! And Aspect of Sorrow, I don't know what the heck you are saying half of the time but the results speak for themselves. Without your assistance we may not even be around. Big thank you and much resoect.

I am fairly new to the server, but I must say the active community and quality of the staff are impressive. I hope to be able to enjoy it all for a long time to come. Thank you for all the effort you all put into making the world come alive.

Happy to have come back to the Golden age. Gotta say the content that was added over the years is astonishing. I've been playing for months now and not even seen the entirety of the Underdark.
The Devs feel super responsive, the community answers questions quickly, DMs not so much XD just kidding guys, I've had some very nice events and Val has become so big he should be called Whalefort
.
Really love this server and the forum as well, btw it's a big part of the server.
