Background:
Sinclair Delacroix, grew up in Luskan with her older brother, Sebastian. They were very close in age but he was always the bolder of the two. She consistently felt him watching over her, even when he didn’t think she knew. He was her protector through it all. Their father departed from their lives when the kids were still very young. He was called to the sea and never returned. Many children in Luskan faced a similar fate. Pirates were very common and many men swore their lives to the sea instead of family.
Their mother was a seamstress in Luskan. She was raven haired, with porcelain skin, and those whom saw her always remarked on the woman’s grace and beauty. The woman doted on her kids whenever possible. She viewed her children as her life and she was theirs. Sinclair thought that life was perfect and was content to learn her mother’s trade.

Blanche was thirteen years old the night she awoke somewhere around twilight to an unsettling noise. She knew immediately that it was not natural, and that she and her brother were in danger. Bastien was already awake and covered her mouth with his hand as she tried to speak. The terror was palpable in the room. Bastien was not looking directly at her but towards the cabin where their mother slept. She will never forget the sound that crept into her ears. It was a low growl with a sickening pop. Something was chewing. Her skin crawled. She attempted to move from her position to see what had entranced her brother so. He immediately grabbed her, aiming to prevent her from inspecting the racket. She shoved him away from her, overwhelmed with curiosity. Her heart stopped as she peered, if only briefly, into their mother’s quarters. Time stood still as she gazed through the darkness.
