I was considering something like this, though I've never really played a wizard before. It's a bit tight on feats, so I want to pick what will have the most impact with what I have available.

No persistant spell. Want more int. A rogue dip will get your hips faster and save you from needing able learner. But cost you some cl. At 18 when you get hips it won't be very effective because of the lowish hide/ms. Will be 24 with dex bonus and gr.hero. not counting any gear bonuses that seems low for that level. I like at least 2x my level for hide/ms effectiveness.

Best DC will be simply W26/SD4. If you want archmage for rp reasons go for it, of course. However getting bonus feats plus saving the feats required for archmage makes straight wizard/ shadow dancer very attractive.

I do want a mage PrC for a bit of added RP, I was also contemplating Thaumaturge, would that be a bit better or?

Not sure what to do about the hide/ms, I max it out at level 20 and am riding the maximum allowance from 21-30. I could perhaps supplement it with items. Rogue wouldn't be possible unless I re-thought my PrC, which I am open to.

Wizard23/archmage4/sd3 is an alternative to Chad's suggestion. Gets even a bit higher DC.
But are you sure you want to play a DC mage? Maybe wizard16/asoc10/sd4 would suit you better?
Your Hide/MS should be 33+dex mod at level 30 naked. If you've got that, no worries.

His final score is fine. But he has to play all the levels up to 30 and what I saw was at the crucial high teens early twenties his scores will be low catching up on the points very late.. I think that while playing he might have some trouble right when the game gets tougher.

Doesn't really matter until he actually gets HiPS. He won't have hide/ms as class skills before then anyways. Easy enough to get full skill by level 20.

I was considering ASoC, however the issue there is SD requires 19 DEX and that's really difficult to get as a surface race while retaining relatively high INT and minimum dump stats. ASoC seems a weird background for a drow, and I'm trying to make this my UD character.
As for whether or not I want to stick with a DC mage! I also considered a Deathsinger build, but had no idea how to even approach it given the relatively high feat requirement.

If you read the description of Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep, it should have been just called Arcane Scholar by now.
The first Arcane Scholars emerged from the dusty libraries of Candlekeep, where they pored through the writings of a thousand long-dead mages, seeking the unifying principles that underlie all magic. But even the archives of Candlekeep have their limits, and not all practitioners of magic have the means or desire to record their experiences with the Art. So Arcane Scholars dispersed into the wider world, observing and recording all the various expressions of magic they could find. Their tradition has gradually spread, and some mages who have never set foot in Candlekeep have adopted their disciplined and systematic approach to magic.

Oh! That's quite helpful.
