What is the point of reporting players? (seems useless)

Unread post by KOPOJIbPAKOB »

Let me briefly describe the situation that happened two days ago.

I was fighting gnolls in Gnoll cave, and there I met a warlock. She was grinding gnolls and mindlessly spamming her firebreath, paying absolutely no attention to other players including me. She hit me twice with this firebreath (glad I survived this). I asked her IC like why did she do this, but she ignored me and kept grinding. I started chasing her and trying to roleplay, but didn't recieve any response (both IC and OOC). I finally catched this warlock in a narrow corridor and closed a door in front of her, and asked her IC to explain herself. She tried to open the door like I am not here. I closed it again, and she tried to open it again. She was mindlessly trying to do it again and again, ignoring me and my companion completely. Finally I got tired of this, toggled her hostile and said IC like I am going to attack if she won't explain why she burned me with firebreath. And you know what? She just logged off. And logged in after about a minute. Of course I was not holding a door anymore and she just kept her brainless grind like nothing happened.

Of course I reported her. But I recieved no response from admin, and today I've seen this warlock grinding again! What's wrong? Did administrator read my message? Or did he read it but felt that this behaviour is not disrespectful? I want some comments from DM's / moderators.

chambordini wrote:Usually when a player is reported you don't get told by staff what they do with them if anything at all, these sorts of threads aren't permissible under the rules of "not calling people out".

Of course a "we will investigate" message is usually issued but most often DMs/Admins have a busy BGTSCC schedule so they might not get back instantly.

Hope that explains it, good luck.
1) I kept this player name in secret, so I don't think I did something against the rules
2) As I mentioned, today I saw this player doing exactly the same thing she did when we met, that's why I doubt that she recieved any punishment/warning

I would recommend reporting offensive behavior and rules breaking through the forum PM system, not through the in-game DM channel.

If you report it in the game, it's very likely it will not be seen. You're counting on A) a DM being online, and B) the DM paying enough attention to see your message among all the other messages they're likely receiving, and then C) taking your informal report seriously enough to head over to the forums to write up a formal report of their own for the rest of the team.

If you cut out the middle man and just write up a report as a Private Message (PM) addressed to the group called "DM Team," you can let every single DM on staff know what happened and they can investigate the troublesome behavior.

It's best if you can attach a screenshot with this report, as well as the player's character name and user name.

I wrote a pm to forum administrator, I just didn't know there is a DM channel here, I'll try to write there. Thank you for response.

Ah, that explains it. The "Administrator" account is a dummy account for officially-mandated posts. None of us have logged into it since November of 2016 it looks like, though eventually I hope to turn all the official posts over to this account so that we don't have ex-DM, ex-staff, and outdated messages mixed in with a bunch of more relevant content.

Sorry for the confusion, but glad you got it to the right place!

Also note that us Forum Moderators are only responsible for making sure everyone is behaving themselves here, on the forum. Only the DM/HDM teams can make decisions regarding reports of IG activity. The best way to contact them is to Compose a new Private Message and then select DM Team/ Head DM + Add [to] on the Groups list on the left side of your Compose Private Message page.

Addressing the situation in the OP: there is a possibility the player did not speak English (I have had similar things happen before). If you have made every attempt to RP with a person and they make absolutely no effort to respond or acknowledge you, I simply do the same and ignore their existence from that point onward. Some folks are not here to RP; they just want to grind by themselves. I simply let them.

If, as in this case, the person is stealing your kills for XP and (un)intentionally harming you in the process, besides trying to contact current online DMs you are free to take appropriate IC action including engaging in PvP. Just make sure you follow the PvP rules and I also recommend toggling your PvP setting (click the PvP button on your DMFI buttons bar on your screen) to "Sending Defeated Players to Home Location" so that when you defeat them they will be booted out of your zone and sent to their default respawn location. I would then highly recommend taking a screenshot of all the conversation leading up to the PvP so you have some evidence to defend your actions with in case the player decides to report you, even though you were in the right.

You need to rewatch Fight Club Valefort, seems pretty easy to me. ;)

Does the send to home location work now?
"Drojal zhah obdoluth dorb'd streeak, Lueth dro zhah zhaunau dorb'd ogglin."
"Existence is empty without chaos, Life is boring without enemies." So sayeth Lady Lolth, Queen of Chaos.
