I wanted to post this on the Discussion forum but polling has been disabled there. Since the results will most likely lead to a suggestion, I figured this would be a good spot. Moderators are free to move it to a better location if I missed it.

Anyway, this poll was inspired from several of the builds that were being listed in my sorcerer discussion topic. I'm curious how many sorcerers on BG have also taken the ASoC PrC. Also choose "yes" if your Sorcerer in his final build RCRed into the class and "no" if your Sorcerer in his final build RCRed out of the class. Please only answer this poll if you have (or had) a sorcerer on BG. This will provide valuable information for my Pure Sorcerer suggestion thread. The poll will end in three days.

Ah, didn't count on that. Well, I guess it comes down to the reason why your one sorcerer doesn't have ASoC. If it's because you couldn't add it in but wanted to, I'd say that make a yes.

Looks nice but this poll is just to figure out whether or not the ASoC is a pure Sorcerer's main competition.

I will admit i did not expect that difference between number of wizards and sorcerers. There are over four times as many wizards. Guess that makes it pretty clear which is considered the more powerful of the two.

you are wanting there to be a reason to full progress sorc, but i really doubt that many of those wizards are W30. there are a very limited number of classes that provide benefits to be x30. druid. ranger. warlock. favored soul somewhat. monk in some aspects. cleric can have some benefit if you have certain domains and builds. but really most builds get better from adding PrCs and that is kind of the point. isnt it?

I should also note that the total number of classes taken = 26249 while it looks like (at that time over a year ago) the total number of PCs in the vault is 2592.

Dividing 26249 by 2592 gives the average server PC level around 10.

Another note, then is that the number listed for Wizards is the number of times it was actually taken on level up. So for building, people tend to take Wizard over Sorc.

As a fellow sorcerer lover, I understand your denial. The fact of the matter though is that on a mid-RP server where there are just as many power builders as there are RPers (and however the two mesh), the most popular is pretty much a strong indicator of the most powerful.

Edit: Figured I'd just take the base classes and order them by their numbers. Shame the Phantom numbers weren't available.

...Uh, what? We have 28 worshipers of Ao in 1353 DR?

A lot of people choosing ASoC isn't really a problem. What's wrong with people using prestige classes? Arcane Scholar has improved metamagics and that's a nice thing to have. My wizard has levels in ASoC.

Why should there be incentive for sorcs to stay pure? They get all their spells at way more uses per day than a wizard gets; 6/day not even counting Charisma, isn't it?

The fact that you can take PrC's from level 5 immediately gives wizard an edge. Then take into account their main attribute (INT) has better synergy for skills, As a Sorcerers main stat is CHA and they only have one CHA based skill. Then lack of skill points on top and we finish off on 1 less feat per five levels. With the only rewarding factor being that you have one more spell per day, per level.

I suppose my question is why do Favored Souls and Spirit shamans have so many more spell options, While also gaining a ton of special abilities on top.

9/6/6/6/6/6/6/6/5/4 vs 9/5/5/4/4/4/3/3/3/3 How is that a fair comparison when they are pretty much just the same thing, the spontaneous casting version of another class. Now you can say mages spellbook is stronger but its not in the end. I can list a fair few bosses and areas my favored soul can level that my sorcerer can't, but the same can't be said the other way around. Also why do wizards only have one restricted school? that's an entire spell school worth of spells wizards get as an option from PnP. Why don't sorcerers get an entire spell school worth of options?.
