Dwarven Berserker

Hello guys.

Any ideas how to best build a classic Dwarven Barbarian? I see that Dwarves are a bit underpopulated on the server so I was thinking of making a new toon.

My problem is that I have several doubts, mainly :

Full 30 Barbarian or Barbarian 20/XX? I know that AK mixes well, but I just can't see it from a RP perspective. No FB also, it doesn't mix well with Barbarian for me.

Shield or Two Hander? That also raises question of going either WF or Normal Rage.

Northlander Hewing or no?

So, any takers?

Barbarian25/DwarverBattlerager5 is the best combination for me.

Dex to 14 to use mith chainmails, int10 the rest on CON/STR for Steadfast, Epic Rage and DR16. It is decent out of rages, very good when in rage. I use the above level split on my dwarven slayer

Barbarian 20/Dwarven Battlerager 5/Frenzied Beserker 5, perhaps. You'd get great cleave from dwarven battlerager!

I had that split in mind, did you go with Shield or 2h? Normal or WF Rage?

I'm too new to really give you great advice, but dwarves are definitely feeling under-represented on the server right now. My half-elf wizard's greatest companion is a dwarven fighter named Baern Ironbeard though. I'm sure he'd love to see some fellow dwarves around.

As for the build, since you said you didn't want FB I think that 25 Barb / 5 Battlerager looks perfect. Based on my own experience and limited understanding I believe you will want a shield. If nothing else for those situational times when more AC is necessary. I find having a shield can be helpfully very early on when Power attack isn't as viable, and likely in epic levels (Though I'm not there yet, and I play a Wiz). I'd say build for dwarven waraxe (Why not?), or warhammer maybe? that way you can easily 2-hand or use a shield if necessary. Idk about the northern hewing ability, but I'm guessing whirlwind rage is the way to go in that regard. It adds an extra attack, and that's always useful (particularly at low levels).

2handed and W. Rage. There is a small AC penalty ( less AC gained ) when using W. Rage with shield.

One Weapon feat and shield clickies ( from avernus ) or potions.

The DR is 16. I find that i dont use IPA often due to low AB ( just use PA) so that limits FB, even though it has a great synergy with the Battlerager.

I tried a Barb20, F6, AK4 and a Barb20, AK10. Both builds suffer from mediocre damage when not raging - which is most of the time.

So i tried F16, Barb4, BR5, FB5, it has good damage all the time and a bit more when raging.
(550hp, Steadfast, Direcharge, +10%speed, 9DR, ab44+4, 4 rages/22r +3 frenzy (deathward) with rage amulet or helm, no UMD (for a challenge))
Standard Rage for longer rages, a bit more dam & some regeneration.

Barbarian 21/Fighter 4/Battlerager 5, and it was a built that could basically solo most of the server before we got all those recent barbarian buffs and what not.

The fighter levels let you have bit of freedom with your feats, and try to get Battlerager levels ASAP because the Extend Rage feat it provides does not stack if you spent a feat on it previously. Now, if you pile up on few additional extend rage feats, your rage will last long enough not to be a genuine issue even in extended combat heavy DM events.

Oh, don't get Extra Rage feats, as there is an amulet that grants it. But if you want to use an amulet, well, then it might be worth to get.
