A man dressed in green and smoking a tobacco pipe walks around the FAI showing a magical ring to merchants and adventurers.
"I'm willing to trade this ring for a similarly powerful magic item that interests me, but I won't part with it even for all the gold in Undermountain."

An armoured Helmite intercepted the merchant at the Friendly Arm Inn and made further enquiry about the object.
"And I suppose we are expected to be clairvoyants when it comes to understanding the contents of your mind and what manner of trade you would deem 'acceptable', tabarif?" She apparently was not terribly impressed by his lack of further information.

Anything could interest me, lass, as long as it's good enough. If someone wants this, I can take a look at what they have for trade. I'm not in a hurry to trade this away.
The man puffs out a ring of smoke with a leisurely smile.

She took out a golden circlet she kept in a magical belt pouch and showed it to the fellow, keeping her gauntlet's grip tight upon it.
"This is the only object I possess with any particular value, at least in my opinion. I am quite fond of it, so it would be the only thing I could consider for trade."

Well, lass, I'd love to say yes to that, but trading this ring for something I can buy from a shop would be equivalent to simply selling it for gold and then buying that item. Perhaps it's my fault; I should have said so from the beginning, but it slipped my mind. I'm looking for something both good enough and rare enough that you don't simply find in shops. I'm sorry.
