Remove the Naming requirements from Disguise

Unread post by PaulImposteur »

I saw in the other thread, it was addressed for polymorph and animal-shape, mechanically.
Would it be possible to revise the rules so we could change our name when disguise to a name akin to 'Masked man,' or other things like that? Inventing strange new names for disguises is kind of awkward and odd. In the realm of impersonation, it makes sense. Though most are simply masking themselves.

I agree. I dislike that I would have to come up with a random name. I don't see what purpose this rule serves other than an annoyance.

Not having names is like screaming "I am disguised" though.

If you stick on a hood and mask and just don't want to have your character's name floating above... ;) I don't see an issue.

I've used 'Masked Person' when I've been warded heavily, because players have difficulty telling if my character is masked or not then and it gets tiresome to point out in a tell that he is. It's never been a desire of mine to stick on a random name in those circumstances.

And wearing a mask isn't?

Similiar scenario to Glowfire when playing, before I found out it was against the rules. I don't feel this rule prevents any sort of meta-gaming, nor does it contribute anything. It just restricts a system with an extra rule, that isn't really needed.

If I'm going to imitate a specific person, I'll use a name. But other-wise, I don't see it as an issue to loosen this rule. It's just unnecessary.

Calling your character 'Old Woman' or 'Wearisome Traveller' can sometimes make people think you're a DM controlled NPC so they swarm around you like midges anyway

Just gotta right click, check them options. That's what I always did at least. Aside though, I think we're smart enough to discern, plus what's the worst that happens, we RP more vigorously?

I did this once on Ned, but idk if you were around that time. We'd just returned from the Trollclaws, and I RPed ned being covered in troll guts, or smelling strongly of troll anyway. So I added it as a little tag via the disguise tool.

However, I now know that titles and such are definitely not allowed via the disguise tool. Especially without DM permission. I had used it to label Nedrin as, "Nedrin Starbrow, Mystran Mage".
I play Nedrin <3

I'm all over this! There are so many potentials with this... Which, I'll admit, can both be good and bad. But more good!

You know, only on the Coast would that have needed to be said. :?
