What's the minimum damage needed at end game?

Unread post by Calantyr »

What's the minimum damage output you need at high levels to be useful if you are a melee character?

I'm working on a build that will be doing almost 200 damage guaranteed per round (unless they roll a 1 to hit). 4 attacks per round, 43-50 damage per hit, doubled if they crit. This number doesn't include consumeable items, weapon enhancements other than the standard +4, burst damage abilities, or expose weakness (which they have).

Is that high enough to overcome most damage reduction, or will I need to get Power Attack and/or go two-handed as well?

Yep, that will do fine. There isn't really a hard minimum though, it's more a matter of if you are building to kill fast enough to mitigate damage against you, or building for max AC whittling away enemies HP more slowly... More often than not it's something in between with AC in the high 40's to low 50's and AB/Damage of at least ~30-40 / hit.

That's great. The AC should be 55 without consumeable items or abilities, so I think I should be able to tank most things. I hope.

there are few things i can think of with flat DR (#/-) so its not so much an issue of damage rather than just knowing how to bypass the DR, magic (+1, +2, etc), /silver, /cold iron, /adamantine, /lawful etc

most flat DRs are just 5 or 10
everyone is evil till proven otherwise
