Explosive bug-bears?

Ran into some bugbears in Thundar's Ridge who are...apparently, eating too many beans? Each one I've killed has exploded. I've seen this before with goblin sappers, but just standard bugbears? Something's odd.

Why not ? They try to kill you even in death, nasty creatures !

Oh I'll freely admit that their odor is killer, but these guys barely understand fire, let alone explosives.
Edit: They also walk a LOT louder then normal. They stomp like a dragon, or so it seems.
