Speeding Up Time

In game moves at 4x(?) the speed of RL, resulting in multiple days passing in one set of 24 hours. This is not reflected in how our Calendar's move for the server.

Currently our IG Calendar date and RL Calendar date are 1 to 1.
I simply propose we speed this up, so we can see some of the awesome grand events in the lore a tad sooner. This has been discussed in the past, but as many things the opinion of the community changes, along with the administrative staff. So I wanted to re-open this proposal for discussion.

We are no where near ready for even discussing ToT, or the direction of the server at that point.

Development support behind it, if left to it's base, would be a considerable undertaking extending the better part of a year or more.

I played on a game with accelerated IG time RL time ratio (Eternia), and it was bloody horrible. Couldn't pace things out at all, RP that made sense one day didn't the other. I ended up entirely missing out on whole aspects of my character's life to RP because I had a busy week and a year already passed IC.

This is an absolutely terrible idea that does nothing but ruin people's enjoyment of the game who intend to immerse themselves into their characters' lives. Sure, it might please those who use the game as a medium for storytelling, but there's a neat little law I live by. Alas, it sounds better in Hungarian (a legkisebb kényszer elve), and its official definition has nothing to do with the way I define it, but taken literally, it means "The law of least sacrifice".

In a 1:1 ratio, can a Pure-Story teller tell stories without issue? The answer is yes. Sure, their scope won't span grand aeons, but they can tell stories all the same.

In a 1:1 ratio, can a Pure-immersion player experience their character's lives to the fullest? Hell yes. While they might end up missing the character development from the passage of time, it is dwarfed by the ability to realistically pace oneself.

In a 1(rl):x(ig) where x > 1, can a pure story teller tell stories without issue? Yes, and they can tell a wider variety of tales - but with less detail.

In a 1:x ratio, where x > 1, can a pure-immersion player experience their character's lives to the fullest? By virtue of the time acceleration - no. While they could enjoy opportunities from passage of time, they will have to give up on pursuing entire aspects of the character as it becomes no longer relevant.

Id have to agree with saying no as things like different timezones come in to effect as well. I already miss a lot of things due to being in a very different timezone and if things moved any faster id miss pretty much everything.

How about slowing down the in-game day/night cycle, at least? Not all the way down to 1:1, maybe 1 RL day = 2 IG days?

But then everyone who's not anywhere near GMT will be stuck at a certain time of day forever unless they dramatically alter their schedule.

I believe TS was referring to the day-to-day progression of the server, not whatever happens IG with day/night cycles.

BGTSCC has been 1:1 progression since its inception. I expect that to remain and I like it that way as well.

Better to slow down the time so days and nights last longer. Im not talking about an actual 24 hour cycle of course but perhaps 25% of that maybe?

1:4 is correct and can be tested by simply casting an hr/level spell on a level 1 PC, the spell will last 15 minutes.
