Best Shop Found Weapons
Hello everyone. I wanted to re-roll my old Weaponmaster, but I am having some doubts about his weapon of choice. I like to have everything planned out, and I heard that there were several new epic shops so I was hoping you can shed some light on what weapons are available there.
From what I understand, there are 4-5 epic shops? Thayan Enclave in BG, Elf Smith in Doron Amar, Northern Merchant in Palace, Shady Guy in Harbor District and Avernus shop (didn't get the chance to visit).
I'm mostly interested in two handed weapons, especially polearms. From what I've seen so far, best weapon is Will of the Uthgardt warmace which has +4 EB, +1d4 slashing damage and is Keen (which boggles the mind as it is a blunt weapon). There is also a nice Halberd similar to the warmace but without Keen property and with useless deflection AC against beasts.
Is there something similar elsewhere, Greatswords, Scythes, Greataxes, Falchions? Or that is best I can hope for? Other merchants are more specialized, shady guy has flails and maces and elf has a nice longsword and bows. How's Avernus? Anyone has a complete list maybe?

Re: Best Shop Found Weapons
Weapon of Impact gives the 'Keen' property to blunt weapons.
I would just make use of that Warmace if I were you. It is a weapon with +4 EB, Keen, +1d4 (Slashing), and it has 1d12 base damage with base 20/x3 critical hit ratio and you can actually just buy it relatively easily. Even if you earn just 10k from a 'loot run' - you can get rather easily because it costs just about 50k - 150k depending on your Appraise skill and roll.
Now, it can be possible that you do not like the appearance of Warmaces, so in that case I would just pick some other weapon. The basement of Blushing Mermaid sells 'Wands of Keen' relatively cheaply, so you can turn just about any +4 weapon you buy from the consignment store into a 'keen' weapon.
Now, I would actually recommend going for a medium sized one handed weapon, because you can always equip that shield for extra bit of AC if you need it. With a polearm, you are required to get the Monkey Grip feat to do the same, and with epic level strength score your strength score actually plays more into your damage than your weapon damage dice.

Also another little bit of information. Weapons with extra damages slashing, piercing and blunt in Dice damage apply to your physical damage instead of like elemental damage. What this means is that the 1d4 Piercing or slashing actually multiplies on critical hits! So by far superior critical weapons have a dice damage that is physical.

But the halberd sold in the Wide in BG is +4 w/ 1d4 blunt bonus damage which is perfect for using a keen wand or whetstone on. Yes the +4 deflection AC vs. beasts is useless, but it's still a solid weapon...plus even with low appraise I think it costs under 100K.

Going to Hijack this thread quick.
Playing a Strength Paladin, using a scimitar atm
I can bless my weapon to +5, keen. Any store weapons that are worthwhile? I have an acid 1/Vampiric and a Electric2 one.
Since I can provide the weapon bonus and keen, I'm just looking for one with nice damage adds.

@hell are some nice ones with d6 elem. damage.
For a caster there are lot's of useful weapons everywhere. Choice really depends on your preferences.

So then it seems like the Will of the Uthgardt warmace is by far the best choice? Also being a blunt weapon which is the best weapon type (undead). Can someone explain the logic behind the costs? 60-70k for the Will of the Uthgardt, available at Baldur's Gate versus 4 EB, 1d6 elemental weapons which cost over 350k, and you have to visit avernus? I don't get it.Calodan wrote:Also another little bit of information. There is a Scimmy with d4 blunt damage that will multiply on a crit, but it's not a lot of extra damage for the high cost. Generally I would recommend using RIG Scimitar for a Paladin.PaulImposteur wrote:Going to Hijack this thread quick.

Weapon 'value' is unfortunately directly proportional to weapon desirability based primarily on mechanical factors, as well as supply-demand economics. For example a 1d8 17-20 keen crit longsword is good; a 1d6 15-20 keen crit scimitar is better mechanically for DPS (then add 13-20 x3 for a weaponmaster... you should get the point by now).clean_slate wrote:Can someone explain the logic behind the costs? 60-70k for the Will of the Uthgardt, available at Baldur's Gate versus 4 EB, 1d6 elemental weapons which cost over 350k, and you have to visit avernus? Some weapons do not even get a look in by people wishing to mechanically optimise their characters, eg. Light Hammer, Flail, Warmace, Sickle, Club. There is no demand for these kinds of weapons because they are mechanically inferior, hence IG prices both in Auction House and shops reflect how little sought after they are. A +4 Keen scimitar with bonus 1d6 whatever, however, will be a 'trade only' weapon due to lack of supply and hot demand. It's sad but that's how BGTSCC economy 'works'.

But that also means that were you willing to give up on some silly critical hit damage potential, you can get some great weapons on a bargain.

Re: Best Shop Found Weapons
With the rise of a feat like Northern Hewing, weapons like warmaces (in particular that one in the palace district) have become very popular. Combine that with barbarian getting a massive bump in power, and you have high strength monsters who can dish out big damage numbers and tank with 16DR and 750 hp. Now warmaces are popular ... along with other high EB, big base damage weapons in combination with high strength. If they have extra physical damage then all the better.

Elven Town sells long bows, rapiers and longswords.
