I checked out the first episode. Not super awesome, but not terrible either. Will probably give this first season a go.
Interesting take on the Klingons. Should be fun to see how they reinterpret Romulans.
And I was left wondering if the captain is sort of a temporary fixture, like just a placeholder for the start of this storyline. Felt like she's lacking a bit of substance is all, but then again it will take time for these new characters to evolve.
Really like the new #1 though. Like REALLY!!

I wasn't to impressed, but we will see.

I really like it so far.
I dont care what folk say about Seth MacFarlane, I think he brings a lot to the show.

it was ok, it'll be interesting to see how and if they further explain her wierd vulcan background/total lack of impulse control combo.
Hated the strong plastic looking klingon heads, they can do better.
i'll keep watching for now.

You should check out the Orville. Yes, it has few awkward jokes per episode, but it is all about exploring and moral issues. You might find yourself laughing every now and then too.
As for the STD,

, perhaps it could be described as a lovechild between the Expanse and Firefly. Perhaps it will not be as dark and miserable as the Expanse and not so cowboy-ish as the Firefly. Something in between. If it gets worse, you can always put it on mute and just enjoy the pretty CGI because visually the first two episodes were just stunning. And the writing and themes of the episodes were pretty much just few hits and more misses.
You know, if this STD was named as anything else, I think it would have had much easier time. I've watched some trekkies review it, and they can just list everything that is wrong about it.

Eugh. I like Babylon 5 but it was a soap opera with a very black and white plot and the inclusion of religion (Sheridan as Messias) was a bit weird. The last season wasn't really needed either.
Still better than a lot Star Trek produced though...
My favourite is still the trashy Red Dwarf.
Anyways ST:D does have some interesting plot points. Let's hope it doesn't get too violent. The CGI is really impressive though.
And the preview at the end of the double episode was very intriguing.

During an episode of Voyager, (my least favorite series) Janeway once commented about the days when captains like Captain Kirk was flying about the alpha quadrant. That it was like the wild west and the actions the captains were more drastic and..wild and crazy. I cant remember Janeways exact words but is was something like that. Discovery takes place a bit before Kirks day so I predict that just due to the time period alone that the show will be much more violent. First episode showing the triggering of the war with the Klingons was a bit of a clue as well. I betcha this show will be most similar to DS9 (my favorite series). The plot lines wont be as predictable as the classic Star Trek formula. Which will be nice. But I do hope they still have those one off episodes where they get side tracked from the story line to deal with some random new space anomaly or new species.

Uuuuuuuuuuuh..... The dialogue... The writing... It is just so terrible. Perhaps I should not be one to complain about terrible dialogue or writing, but still, I'd just rather mute it and see the visuals.
It actually makes that Airbender movie watchable too.

Cue in Spock. Amanda raised the protagonist.

So the first episode was free, and now we US folks need to freakin PAY for all other episodes?

Up your's CBS!!! This show ain't no Game of Thrones.
Guess I'll have to wait for it to become available for free on Netflix like it is for the rest of the world.
And hope that this business model turns into an EPIC FAIL for the money-grubbing network pigs.

Episode 3 didn't get any worse. Ha! That's a relief.
The writers seem to be promoting a high level of chaos, treachery and hidden agendas. Starfleet of this generation seems much more "cowboy" than what we know to be later. Maybe too cowboy.
