Languages - minor functionality for the translator.

Unread post by NegInfinity »

It would be nice to have following improvements in the language system:

Ability to display emotes and OOC untranslated. I saw this on couple of servers. It means that if you say "Greetings! *someone says*" in infernal, it gets displayed as "Iiruyier *someone says*" and not into "Iiruyier *iuyriuylt aisy*" for those who do not know the language.

The other thing that i'd love to see would be ability to specify the langauge in a chat bar.

Something akin to

Code: Select all

\lang "infernal" Hello
I think the ability to exclude emotes and ooc from translation should be available in some of the versions of language scripts somewhere, while ability to use language in a chat bar would require scripting, similar to the animation system commands.

How do you go about emoting?

text *text* only has text1 translated, between asterisks it remains normal.

Are you using the flavor text option?

Not sure if this helps, but if you have the language window open anything you type in to the regular chat window will still be populated in the language you have opened.

I agree emotes and ooc would be great to display in English (or whatever language you're playing in.

I usually fire up language window, click language I want, and use the chat window that shows up. Not the normal chat window. Auto animation and auto color is enabled. Doing it this way translates emotes and OOC and occasionally auto-fires animations in an error.

I saw a server where it worked differently, meaning clicking a language switched the language you were speaking in a normal chat.

I'd also love the option to mix multiple languages, like I described.

Emotes will get translated when using flavour text (coloured text) and languages. They won't when flavour text is off.

The version of translator I saw was correctly handling the emotes and correctly coloring them. There also were no "chat options". The text was colored by default.

I'm not sure which package the translator is based off, but I think it might be a good idea to check if it was updated.
