I've been thinking of creating an evil warlock/necromancer character that worships Asmodeus (i think it's his name).

Is there an evil guild around that worships the prince of demons? ;-p

Be very careful....but there are a number of evils. Well at least guilds that would accept evil, not so sure about Asmodeus though. Pretty sure he is just a Demon-Lord now and not yet a full god.

Then my character wants to raze the world in his name and make him one! ;-p

Not quite how it works, plus he doesn't care about you. You are nothing to him! Muhahaha. I don't think Devils/Demons give any kind of power to mortals(or do they...) in the way gods can lend divine casting and powers to mortals. (I might have to check how warlocks actually work lol)

Actually i think they do grant warlocks their power...and my character would be insidious, crafty, cunning, evil...bending the law of the lands to his whims...like every good politician.

I think that is a good case of LE...Bane would fit you way better than a petty demon lord....ALL HAIL BANE!!!

Correct. Asmodeus does not ascent to godhood until after the Spellplague (1385 DR) because with Mystra's murder and the destruction of her divine realm of Dweomerheart, Azuth got shunted through the Astral Plane and ended up in Baator, at which point Asmodeus sensed his opportunity and devoured the Lord of Spells' divine essence.

However, it is perfectly acceptable to worship an archdevil in a cultic sense and be pacted to it for warlock powers. You just won't be able to mechanically choose Asmodeus as a deity (probably a good opportunity to take 'no deity').

Warlock power is even something outside of magic and divine power anyways. So No god seems to make the most sense.

These two are as great enemies to each other as they are to any good aligned entities. Asmodeus was once a powerful celestial leader who battled the demons of the abyss. Eventually he was corrupted, and settled on Baator, thus becoming Baatezu. The new Baatezu continued the war with the tanar'ri forever. It's known as the Blood War.

It is really, really important that people don't mix up "devils" and "demons". They're very different.

Demons = Crazy Anarchists

Pretty accurate....Devils want you to sign your soul away, Demons...well they just want to take it from you. Lol
