1. History and Homeland
Born into a noble family far far beyond the Gates of Baldur, in the lands of Halruaa. During his childhood years, his father was a wealthy merchant that sells arms and armor. He taught Reiju how to negotiate and bargain with the local traders. His mother was a locally-renowned arcane scholar who had a few breakthroughs in the field of magic. After Reiju was born, she spent most of her days taking care of him while working on her research at home.
As Reiju grew up, he spent some time with his mother to aid her in research, which led him to learn spellcraft along the process. His father shifted some of the business work towards Reiju, allowing him to slowly take over as he retire from it.
Many years later, while Reiju was conducting business from a neighboring town, he saw a very attractive foreign trader. She possessed brown hazel eyes, long straight dark hair, young pretty face, voluptuous body curve under her modest clothing, and a well-refined composure. Reiju quickly finished conducting business with the man he was with and observed the woman from a distance. Her name was Amelia and she hails from the northern lands, called Baldur’s Gate. She wishes to conduct business with the locals to sell her goods. Many people have come and bought her goods. Reiju visited her stall and he noticed a very expensive lute was on display. Amelia mentioned the story of the Lute and its capabilities of bringing a dead man back to life. She also mentioned that she does not want to part with it for a coin, but willing to consider a fair trade with an item of a considerable value. Upon hearing this, Reiju gave up the hopes of buying the Lute and instead, invited her for a round of drinks in which she happily agreed to.
The next day, Amelia departs for home and invited Reiju to join her to visit the Gate. Heavily-hearted, Reiju declines the offer to join her presently due to the pressing matters before him. But he promises to seek her once he is free from the bounds of his nobility.
Many weeks later, Reiju was arranged to meet a noblewoman for marriage orchestrated by his parents. Reiju reluctantly agreed to meet her and they met under the moonlight sky, sipping their tea. The lady was a year younger than Reiju, with green-piercing eyes, dark hair, pretty face, well-refined manners and composure. Reiju could clearly tell that she was forced by her parents. Reiju promises her that he will not let their parents have their way with them.
The next day during the break of dawn, Reiju packed his belongings and departed for Baldur’s Gate, leaving all his ties with his nobility and discarded his last name as the proof of it.
2. Along the way to the Gate
After his departure from his homeland, Reiju met a caravan headed north, towards the Gates. He met a man named Sief who was very good at playing the Lute. Reiju learned the ways of music from Sief as well as wooing women. With Reiju’s innate charismatic ability of negotiating and bargaining with merchants, he was very popular with women in every town they visited.
One day during his travel with the Caravan, a bandit group was waiting to ambush them on the road. Reiju and his caravan was able to repel the bandit group, but it turns out that Sief was part of the bandits and took a hostage after the battle. He demanded all the goods and provisions that the group was carrying along with the valuable possessions that Reiju had. Reiju attempted to negotiate with Sief, but he was not interested in any negotiations. Reiju refused to give up his belongings and used his voice to strike down Sief. With the hostage unharmed and Sief lying dead on the road, Reiju was disgusted with himself for trusting Sief in the first place. From then on, he vowed to distance himself from trouble, and stay neutral in matters that does not concern him to avoid conflict.
3. In Baldur’s Gate
With the caravan arrived safely, Reiju parted ways with the group and started his search for Amelia in the hopes of meeting her again. He asked the locals about her, but no one was able to point Reiju to a direction.
One evening, Reiju visits the Blushing Mermaid Inn, he over-heard a traveler having a conversation with the innkeeper about a Lute that can bring dead to life. He walks towards the traveler and asked him for more details regarding the Lute. The traveler mentioned that the Lute can be found in the Avernus…
Goals: Find Amelia, Find the mystical Lute, Travel to Avernus
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: Since he is looking for a mystical Lute and a possible lead to Amelia in the Avernus, any group willing to travel down and explore the ruins would be good.
