I found a dusty tome, but I'm going to RCR soon. Should I try and use it now or wait?

Once it is used its locked to your account for checking it. So use it when you have the best chance to beat the DC, once it is "unlocked" anyone can technically use it.

So I made the save and now it just says its a book with maps of faerun lol. Does that mean it was worthless? Just a luck of the draw kinda deal?

Did you not get some XP for it? They are actually meant as lore nodes, but we don't have any writers to help with the lore texts, so you have to pretend it contains something interesting

Just to clarify, it is not locked to your account, but your account can only try to beat the DC 1 time. Meaning you can have another player's character help you read it.

So far I bought one book from someone who got it in the donation box. It had a name in it, sadly not one I can use.

And I found an unused book there myself, too. No name, alas. But it did save me about 300k judging by the auction forum.

I did the same with a few mithril full plates and breastplates as well, back before I learned how rare and valuable they were.
I've made so many mistakes on this server.
