Due to a mistake, I lost all the three copies of the game, base + expansions. And I haven't got money to buy it again. I'd really want to come back and play with all of you, but I don't have the money. Anyone has suggestions?

If you have the CD keys then you are good to go. There is a download site that Barney put up for the community in case you have CD keys still. If no CD keys then you are SOL and need to go buy the whole game from GOG for $20 or so.

When you download with torrents you (usually) also upload the for other people. Hence you are enabling software piracy that way.
As a point of reference: In the United States you would usually receive a far heavier 'fine' for using torrents than for using a direct download. And there are instances when a direct download is legally okay. While torrents wouldn't be. Its not the same.

I am getting a new laptop and shall be able to play again soon. I have to get a new version of NWN2 and I guess my cd keys will change. I am trying to move over what I can but would not like to lose what toons I have in my Vault. Any advice as to what I should do or some direction to take to make the transition smooth? I still have access to the files on my old laptop if that helps.

You won't lose server characters as they are not stored locally on your own computer.
If you wish to preserve your own local vault characters, go to your /documents/nwn2/ Local Vault folder and copy all of it to a data stick. When you install the game into your new computer, replace the Local Vault folder with your old one from the data stick.
You can also do the same with haks/overrides/module files to save download times if you've a 4 or 8gb stick to use for the purpose.

Just ask the Admin to enable your CD keys for you when you have the laptop, Uncleboffo. No need to move anything over.

I was not familiar with your laws. In my country users are not responsible for downloading any kind of content.
