Juno is a young woman of striking appearance. A credit to her celestial blood, her green eyes and vibrant red hair shine preternaturally brightly in the sun, and seem to catch the light even where there is none. Her skin has a subtle glow, free of mark or blemish, and her athletic form speaks to some kind of martial training.
Her armor is kept in fine condition, but seems no stranger to regular use. Symbols of her faith adorn various parts: a hammered bronze rose on a red field adorns a rerebrace, and a more ornate design on one tasset, a depiction of a woman’s fair face and a cloud of swirling red hair.
Background
Juno was born in the Dalelands to an unknown father and a mother who died in childbirth. Having been on the road and unknown to the people who helped deliver her baby, the woman was interred and the child sent to an orphanage in Mistledale. Known simply as The Home, the orphanage provided a life of benign poverty, neither a place of great comfort nor complete misery.
Named for a character in one of caretaker Sister Dania's favorite tales, Juno grew to love such stories and clung to them as a means of escape. Like many children brought up without family, she struggled with issues of identity, anger, and social maladjustment. The subtle signs of her celestial heritage - glowing eyes, radiant hair - increased with age and drove her further into self-imposed isolation.
When Juno was 16, she met a wandering knight-errant on the road, Sir Bruenor de Serra. A devout of Sune, Sir Bruenor interpreted this meeting of a celestial-touched, crimson-haired youth as a sign, and immediately petitioned the orphanage to take Juno on as a page. Longing for a change and her existence suddenly offered context and purpose, Juno herself agreed and left with him soon after.
The better part of a decade was spent schooling Juno in the arts and ways of a courtly knight. Though she took quickly to the martial aspects of the role, she struggled with Sir Bruenor's lessons of compassion, selflessness, and an open heart. Years of work dedicated to Sune taught Juno how best to defend the weak, appreciate art and beauty, and nurture kindness in all its forms.
In the final year of his mentorship, Sir Bruenor's mental faculties began to decline. What started as mere forgetfulness steadily degraded into confusion and disorientation as this disease of the mind grew. Juno tended to his care diligently at the temple of Sune in Battledale until his death. Buried and consecrated as Sir Bruenor the Unrequited, Juno spent that night in vigil so that she might take up her mentor's cause.
Blessed with a vision, the page heard the call of the goddess where her master had heard only silence. Ordained as a Paladin, she departed the Dales to seek out a new road and new souls in need of uplifting.
Personality, Habits, and Behavior
When not seeking out opportunities to do good along the coast, Juno splits her times of rest in the Gate between attending services at the Halls of Light and volunteering at the Ilmateri orphanage. An orphan herself, she dedicates a great deal of time and energy to teach the children there kindness, self-love, and social skills.
A champion of love, Juno firmly believes in compassion towards all creatures, and will seek out opportunities to redeem those others may believe to be beyond or unworthy of saving. Though she tries to temper this goodwill with wisdom, she always makes time for diplomacy and the offer of aid and friendship to those willing to take a different path.
Juno is a lover of stories, verse and rhyme whether written, spoken, or sung. While not a creative herself, she enjoys seeking out scraps of poetry and committing her favorite lines to memory.
Physical & Mental Health
Hale and healthy thanks to the special combination of her celestial blood and paladin status. Her outlook is generally optimistic and she’s self-propelled by fearlessness and derring-do, and the unshakeable quest to carry on her mentor’s work.
Plot Hooks & Miscellaneous
Proceeding out of the perceived shadow of her mentor, Sir Bruenor, Juno has been struggling with how best to prove her devotion to Sune. Where Sir Bruenor's proof lay in his unrequited love, Juno enjoys the blessings and embrace of her goddess, yet yearns to give more.
Juno goes out of her way to find the redeemable in every being she meets, even if that person appears evil or suspicious. While this can land her in trouble from time to time, she will ever extend a hand of friendship before drawing her blade.
Having trained under a wandering knight-errant, Juno believes her role is to serve the people, and seeks out opportunities to assist the common folk, the weak, and the destitute.
Her orphanage upbringing draws Juno particularly to the assistance of children, and she spends a great deal of her personal time volunteering at the Ilmateri orphanage in Baldur's Gate.
