Bank System

Is there a way to implement a bank system? It's kinda annoying to pass gold around when RCRing.

im not really into assisting muling.... ..rcr is a good reason, but then... nice things, cant be having them, and all that.
i mean, i would mule a lot more than i did, if it was easier.

How about an rp reason then.
You cant have your cake and eat it too.
Gold is actually a fairly dense metal. Same as copper and silver. If your character is running around with 1000 coins, they’d definitely notice the weight.
Let’s not talk about running around with 100,000 coins each weighing half ounce. Equates to a little over 1.5 tonnes of coin.

Depending on the edition in dnd
1lb is either 10 gold pieces or 50 gold pieces.
So, somebody with one million coin will be carrying either 45 tons of gold or 9 tons of gold respectively.

Sigil has this amazing money-changer system whereby you can buy planar currencies for mechanical GP and then sell them back. Sigil's currency enchange has a 2% markup/markdown, no appraise markup/markdown from PCs allowed since it trades the base item value of currencies traded (exchanges thus do not buy any other items). This way you can actually carry your gold in other formats (which can be bartered/dropped) and then exchange it for the mechanical GP when you actually need it.
There are plenty of extra coin images left unused that I noticed when I prepared my Random Gem project. It would be very easy to create additional
local currencies (eg. Amnian danters, Cormyrian Lions, Baldurian trade bars) to drop as loot with specific exchange values, which players would then have to exchange for mechanical GP.
I'd be happy to do the legwork for this if the Devs are interested in running with it and doing the scripting and making a few currency exchange NPCs

i would love that... ..if it stacks to 99. you would think after lugging around 9 tons of gold, the wizards would figure out how to make magic scrip. also, legwork and reasearch or not, the coins woukd have to have simple math. so a coin woukd easily be noted as having a round gold value. if it used some kind of current coin value according to DnD, they'll probably come out to some are worth 342.8 coin and others worth 142.65, with a lengthy explanation why.
it is maddening to me a helping of vegetables costs more than a farmer makes in a decade. i imagine the gold coins as being very, very tiny. even then... ...it just doesnt make any sense. and when i hear "40 bags" it just... the image in my mind is just silly. might as well put dollar signs on them.

as much as i love the idea, it would be just another hassle between buying and selling, since mechanically merchants can probably only take magical, mechanical, weightless gold coins.
its been suggested before, but shot down.. ..id prefer 1 coin = 1 copper, 10 = 1 silver, 100 = 1 electrum, 1000 = 1 gold, and 10000 = 1 platinum. then people arent trading bags of gold, but just gold and sometimes silver coins. i mean, lady adora pays you the equivalent of 200,000 copper coins for the return of her decorative bracelets, and you give the kid 10,000 copper coins to give it back. come on kid, ill give you two decades worth of farmers wages to return a worthless bracelet you stole...
farmer todd pays you 25 gold coins to stuff his scare crows. He must have some kind of money laundering or prostitution ring in his barn, and the scarecrow stuffing job is just to throw you off the scent.
Sister Juna pays 600 gold coins for 5 handfuls of berries! and she is just going to use them to...
i mean, its ridiculous, imho.
but the inventory coin system should not be an issue, now that there is storage. it would not really make muling any easier, though muling coin sounds like it would cost 4%, (2% to exchange to mulable items and 2% to transfer mulable items back to mechanical gold). my muling between unrelated characters used gem to denote trading. it is quite a hassle to drop off an item, log off, log on, pick up an item, drop off payment, log off, log on, pick up payment. so my muling was limited.
i just prefer to see stacks of various coins, over a bank account number, honestly. but inventory space....

I don't know if it was shot down, necessarily, but the last time it was really considered it wasn't clear if it could be easily implemented. Potentially there's a lot of NPC conversations that would need to be changed if we did change it so that the game mechanically referred to "gold pieces"/"gp" as "copper pieces"/"cp."
I'll raise a mention about it for discussion with staff.
Bank conversations for storing player wealth probably wouldn't be impossible, but using it for muling would be kind of awkward. Possible, but pretty out of character: You'd have to use the disguise system probably. It was never really intended that storage would be used for muling, per se, which is why it's tied to character names (and now storage location) and not just an account name.

Sounds like the GP to CP thing, at least, can't be done. I think some servers have created items named "copper," "silver," etc., and had them as stackable objects in the inventory -- but as far as changing the actual GP you receive from the game engine, it sounds like it's hard coded.

Just rename everything to "coin" instead of copper pieces/gold pieces. That way if something is 25,000 coin, it is known it is 25 gold coin (crowns, lions, what have you). If it is 25,000 copper pieces, then it sounds like they want 25,000 copper pieces.
and I am pretty sure GP stands for "gold points" which is gamey. Not that it matters, as it is hard coded.
However, if everything were renamed to coin, and the aforementioned currency coins dropped, (instead of GP? If possible), i think the idea of 1 GP = 1 copper would start to set in.
Anyways, it sounds awesome, but at the end of the day, I wouldn't stress it too much.. ....because it will always be GP when it comes down to brass tacks. It is the way the game is coded, and GP is king. Most people would still prefer trades in GP, even if the currency items had a well known value, because, who wants to go to the bank and transfer currency to GP before buying something from a merchant? The currency system would be great, if merchants accepted it, (if they did, it would be susceptible to appraise checks, which would ruin the known value of currencies, therefore making them less acceptable), so I don't think that is possible, so probably best to let the whole thing lay for now, and work on previously stated goals.
