Hey folks. Random thought here.

I've found a couple pieces of mithril gear that I really, really have no use for (a kama, and a breastplate/halfplate medium armor). Would it at all be possible to have a DM oversee a smelting and/or reforging of the items into the base materials that can then be used in some other fasion at another time?

I realize we don't have a crafting system in, at least not offically, but that doesn't mean there can't be SOMETHING put into place, right? It won't be fantastic, but maybe at least some basic mechanics? Maybe a d20 roll against your skill or something? I dunno. Random thoughts here as I sad, but it's something to think about.

I know this has already been done before on a smaller scale (an rp event to create an adamantine scalpel for a mage by smelting down an adamantine banded mail) but I'm just thinking that this may be a good jump-off point for an offical crafting system, or at least another incentive.

On the other hand, if I'm pushin' the envelope here, lemme know, and I'll shut up.

Issue I would see is players asking DMs to break down and reforge Adamantine armors in to weapons...which aren't available anymore.

That of course is just calling out an illegal type of material for weapons...for your specific request, this would seem like something you could reach out to the DM team directly for.

I know of a player from way back who requested his sword (bastard sword, I think?) being reforged into another type (katana). He was given a quest to acquire some materials and some other things, plus gold obviously. Took him a month or two, if I remember right, to finally get his sword reforged. So it has happened in the past at least.

It doesn't hurt poking the DM team about it. Maybe one of them will run a chain of quests over some weeks to make it happen, provided your requested weapon isn't overpowered of course.

Damn. Brings back memories of my attempt to have flaming short swords forged. Sounds fun.
