Weapon Defence for Fighters

Paladins Crusader kit gains this feat apparently called Weapon Defence. It grants Shield AC when you use your specialized 2-handed weapon. Would it be possible to add this as a choosable stacking feat as fighter bonus feat?

Not a chance, fighters can multiclass and get good AC, even as two-handers. This was done so that paladins can stay pure and get good AC without a shield, at the cost of their spell book, which is all but negligible.

How can a twohanded fighter get good defense ?

Not talking about Barbarians (or Crusaders now).

F 12 / dervish 10 /

LoH, One Weapon, armor skin

10 (base) + 3 (tumble) + 6 (chainmail) +4 (DEX mod) + 3 (dervish AC) + 1 (LoH)+ 1 (one Weapon) + 1 (armor skin) + 4*4 (AC items) = 45 AC

Then you have 8 levels to toy with, you can add bard 5 for the +2 AC, breach gnome, Dwarven defender, Whirling dervish, even rogue + wilderness stalker is an option. Can also use CE/ICE with NH.

I should precise that Crusader Defense works only with medium or heavy armors.

it could be epic feat requiring 21 fighter levels, if that is possible.

Edit: Wouldn’t have to be epic, merely a high fighter level requirement to take it. I was thinking this mostly for fighters in heavy armor that won’t go umd.

toy will not get a good ac if you need t ohit and make soem harm with use of 2 weaons on same time i know what iam talking about so there for you will use loots of wands or potions for ac

You already have Heavy Armor Optimization and Greater Heavy Armor Optimization for that purpose. If anything, we could consider an epic version of that.

Or give Heavy Armor Optimization at figher15, Greater Heavy Armor Optimization at fighter20 and/or the epic one at fighter 24 for free.

That’s something to consider yeah. However I think heavy armor fighters with shields get good AC already, which is why I suggested Weapon Defence.

Fighters get many feats it would be kinda cheese to just give them for free.

As a fighter you already get weapon supremacy that raises your AC while you're wielding your weapon of choice. +1 Dodge.

In general, you don't get a good defense as a two-hander, because a +4 tower shield gives you +8 AC.

However, you could make a dex fighter with 37 dexterity and improved combat expertise. You'll be using a rapier, which is technically two-handed. But you could use something else at a cost of massive AB loss.

AC:
10 (base)
|+12 (boots, ring, armor, natural all +3)
+ 15 (dex bonus with +3 dex items)
+6 (improved combat experties)
+1 (tumble. Because fighters don't get tumbl)
+1 weapon supremacy
+1 dodge

46 AC. And you can stil equip a +3 tower shield and boost it to 53.

is there a way to build a valid twohanded-weapon Lv30 fighter, who also does some damage ?



On a side note - an AC46 is not high at all, as long as Divines can reach AC 60+ ........
(example: my AC52 monk was destroyed by single drider savage in a blink. :roll: )

37 str FTR 30 rock genasi with monkey grip, knockdown disarm, IMA, IPA and a towershield, heavy shield nearby coupled with "Mighty Throw" for when things get hairy.

I played this character. Due to certain feats available on bgtscc, it is extremely viable and deals significant damage. You'll still need either a wizard friend of bunch if items to do something about that will save, though.

About 45 AC in defensive mode (IMA + shield on), I believe.

Problem: Controlling it is like flying a helicopter and requires paying attention to how combat logs and it works best in a party. When things are going well, you grab your weapon with two hands, switch IPA on and obliterate things. When you get cornered or surrounded, you go into full defense mode (ICE + shield) and stab them to death at slower speed with monkey grip.

Long story short, however... you don't play a twohander warrior when you don't want to get hit.

And then there's a duelist class that works with spears, I believe. So there's that.

We had a discussion about pure fighter 30's not long ago and I'm pretty sure it was shown that there were multiple ways to make one which is more than viable for the majority of the server.

Going two hander is not that hard. My Thayan Knight uses a Halberd and when solo he pulls out his Beast Tower Shield (+3 Tower Shield with bonus feat: Monkey Grip - available relatively inexpensively from Avernus). Even with the AB loss he does fine at level 26 and has done fine all the way from level 1. When with his brother (another Thayan Knight) he does more damage, but has less AC. When solo he gives up some of that damage to get more defense. When not using a Shield he has one hander feat for +1 AC with additional bonus AC popping on randomly. Of course he has Divine Shield which can push him in to the mid to upper 50's when really necessary.

Basically his AC with just equipment ends up at around ~41, with Tower Shield it's 48, if no Tower Shield he can get to 47 with wand of IMA and Shield, Divine Shield can then put him at 54 without using a shield.

Now, obviously this is not a pure fighter, but a pure fighter could use ICE to replace Divine Shield and end up with roughly the same AC numbers. For a Pure Fighter, if I was to build one it would be all about using the insane number of feats to be able to change strategy on the fly. I would want IPA, ICE, maybe even Northlander Hewing to be able to have lots of control over my AB, Damage and AC based on the enemies I was facing. However, if you are asking to get the damage of a Two Hander while also being able to have the AC of a shield tank then sorry, the whole point is to give up one in favor of the other. You are not going to get AC in the 60's while doing an average of 100 per hit without using clickies.
