Hey guys and gals, I first want to start by introducing myself, Im THACOS and Im fairly new to the D&D community, I also want to thank anyone for the future help in this quest for knowledge its greatly appreciated. Its been years since Ive played NWN and I have a few questions about the multiplayer and this server as I never really played NWN2 online.
So first off I've heard that some of these servers are pretty darn true to the actual play of D&D is this true? its really why I rebought the game and have now spent around an hour or so searching for servers and firguring out how to run it all. Ive yet to actually get a group together irl to play but I've binged listened to The Adventure Zone & Dice Funk, along with countless other podcasts and I've read a lot of 5e manuals, ect. so I feel pretty familiar with it all and thats what sparks my interest in this because I want to get that feel as close as possible with a video game and real players. Im an over the road truck driver whos home on weekends and thats made it even harder to find a group, along with the fact that I live in BFE, so most of my time is spent with my daughter and wife while I am home making this option most viable to my situation.
Second question, I see this server has a pretty high head count for as old as this game is does this server usually hold a decent amount of people on the weekends?
Third question, Im especially interested in this server as I'm a fan of baldurs gate games, icewind dale, ect. what Edition would you say is closest in this server? and should I expect the same kind of toughness that I found on my first run through on these classic games?
Again Thank You for any future support and answers! I hope to make friends with you all and hold a long lasting relationship throughout this game even if it doesnt meet any of the above first question. Im really just looking to make friends and have fun and I hope I came to the right server.
PS sorry if most of these have been answered in previous posts Im pretty excited to jump in and after having some tlk issues Id rather spend my time getting use to the controls instead of digging :p

welcome to the server. the scry system in the game pretty much can assist you a lot to see where are the people and what their lvl range are.
currently, just send a friendly 'tell' to people with +(indicating lvl 1-10) . FYI ++(lvl11-20), +++(lvl21-30)
Plenty of people in game would love to answer your questions and even guide you. Its a mixture of RP+Adventuring with friends and foes.
Pretty much good to go with 3-5 person in party (either campfire RP, or go out adventuring)

Re: Newbie here with a few questions
Hi and welcome to the server. In answer to some of your questions I can tell you that this server uses 3.5 edition.
Its a Medium Rp server meaning you will find a mix of different player styles. When I first started playing I was what most call a grinder. I loved going out and lvling up my character concepts.
Is playing here hard? It is definitely a challenge. as mentioned in the post before mine use the scry to look for groups. I play Terri 'Xon as my main. If you have any questions feel free to ping me. Others who have been here for some time will also be happy to help you. Do not be afraid to ask.
I highly recommend you read and familarize yourself with the server rules ( viewtopic.php?f=7&t=36831) so you dont feel out of place. I really look forward to running into you in game and getting to know your player concept. Have fun and see you soon!

Re: Newbie here with a few questions
I don't think isometric CRPGs can really be compared to NWN2 multiplayer. Everyone is controlled by a person and there's not much of a narrative in place except for what people decide to talk (and sometimes fight) about. You'll be revisiting the same areas multiple times as you level. The difficulty of these areas scales with the CR of the players inside the area. Your reward for doing this will be xp and treasure chests, this does not advance any kind of narrative except the one you create. A single player game is about reacting to what's been put in front of you. This is more about making your own fun and making fun for other people. Active vs reactive players tend to experience more fun in a game like this.THACOS wrote: Third question, Im especially interested in this server as I'm a fan of baldurs gate games, icewind dale, ect. what Edition would you say is closest in this server? and should I expect the same kind of toughness that I found on my first run through on these classic games?

Re: Newbie here with a few questions
While the rules are 3.5 our timeline is 1st edition so the time of troubles hasn't occurred yet. Thus the events of the original baldurs gate saga ate a long way off. We are about 5 years away from the timer of troubles IIRC.
We have a DM Team that runs one off events as well as ongoing server meta plots each year in addition to guilds and other player group rp. I would not go so far to say that what we have is very close to what you get in pnp since you won't have a DM with you very often crafting a story around a small group of characters. However, i would say this server and some others are the closest you can achieve in an online game.

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.
