Hey everyone.

I'm curious which would be the strongest necromancer build here on the BGT:SCC - in your opinion?

What makes it in your opinion the strongest build? Is it more a caster build or a melee build?

What are its strengths and weaknesses? Does it rely on summons or anything else specifically?

Any particular feat you would deem important for the build?

What spells would it use the most, and any spell that would be important for the build?

Any magical items that would be particularly useful for the build?




NOTE: I'm specifically asking which is the strongest necromancer build in your opinion, not which character is.

No matter your strength, you will be destroyed by the do-gooders. But basically, Red Wizard increases the caster level of Necromancer school magic by +5 or so, if you want as high DCs as possible.

DC caster.

+HD on undead summons. Possibly highest arcane DCs possible. You lose two schools of magic.

Spell Focus Necromancy.

That item with Desecrate.

If DC is the go, tiefling 10SA,10AM,5BM,5Wiz. That would have the best arcane DC possible unless you can get a DM to approve SA/RW but i doubt it.

Focus on necromancer spells, dump either transmutation or evocation. Take some undead summons as well and make sure you have epic spell focus necromancy, and greater int feats.

The strongest Necromancer is the one that reanimates you.

Kor'Vain.

I wasn't implying it was DC, it could be any - what do you think is the strongest build?

Yes, I do think this is more an opinion on the strongest necromancer player out there
A build is mostly just a build and only that good as how the player uses it.

Kor'Vain's build isn't even the top and absolute powerhouse but in the players hands very deadly.

You're right, I was having a bit of fun, but you asked an honest question and I should have given you a real answer. (Though if you see Kor'Vain, it's advisable to simply find somewhere else to be...unless you're an elf...maybe)

Necromancy IMO is strongest built for DC's, but has the added benefit of some of the strongest summons in the game. DC's can be gained by increasing Caster Level or by getting higher INT. As an example of a strong Necromancer I might consider W7/PM10/RW10/SA3. CL would end up at 36 for +2 DCs over a CL30 wizard and RW5 and RW10 grants bonus feats in the epics for 2 points higher INT. SA also gives a flat +2 to DCs on Necromancy, Enchantment and Illusion. That said, good luck getting approval as I previously provided said build to a player and he became frustrated that DMs would not approve it as a power build (Note I was not on those PMs so have no idea if his back story wasn't strong enough either... So I'm not saying it's impossible, but it is not likely something DMs would be interested in without seeing a strong commitment to Shar and Red Wizard lore). PM requires you to take PSC, but gives you a very strong summon and enough defense to save you a couple of spell slots you can use for more DC spells.

An easier build to go for (requiring no application only classes) would be W16/PM10/AM4. CL32 for +1 to DC's and W10 and 15 will grant bonus feats in epics for 2 great int's. will likely end up with DC's 2-3 points lower than the above build on Necromancy as well as 2 points lower on illusion and enchantment. However, will have better DCs and CL on Transmutation and Evocation.

Finally, if you don't mind something a bit different, could also go W13/PM10/SD3/AM4. DCs will be quite a bit lower. At level 20 you will be W11/PM3/SD3/AM3 so no bonus W feats in epics. CL will be 29 so you can be dispelled, though it is a small chance unless hit by mords, like about any other mage. Benefit is you get HiPS which is a very strong defensive ability. PM makes it less costly to obtain since they get Hide/MS as class skills.

So there are three strong Necromancy builds. "Strongest" is very subjective and very much dependent upon player skill. I would recommend you consider what your favorite style of play is and build around that. You will have more fun and will likely be more successful with a build you enjoy.

I don't know about this Kor'Vain being the scariest necromancer though... They guy seems to log out whenever I get close enough with an epic character of my own...

A strong DC wizard, is not just about the DCs. Sustainability is a very big and for a necromancer, palemaster takes care of everything - immunities, summons, AC, HP, Saves, detection.

Blood magus is the second PRC that helps a lot. The full 10 levels will give you bonus HP, Fort saves, +2 permanent CON some very efficient abilities and bonus CL.

Any build with those two PRCs will be top. If you decide on your spellbook and you like cheese, 4 levels of Shadow adept can help.
