New spell suggestion: True Resurrection

Unread post by Hoihe »

Implement True Resurrection as describe in PhB, except for the following:

Casting the spell costs 100 000 gold coins.

Or 500 000 if people consider 100 000 "too cheap."

Atria might end up trying to do this for direct NPC comrades now that you mention it...

Don't forget to implement 10 minutes casting time (100 rounds) and make sure the gold is deducted at the beginning of the cast.

You can still disintegrate recently-resurrected commoners right after the ritual, I believe.

I think it should be based on the level of the character you're trying to use the spell on.

I think 100k is way too much, instead it would be better to put a restriction on how many times it can be cast, so like say once per week or month - to prevent it from being abused.

Also consider that not everyone is going to want to come back. Some times, when a Raise Dead or Resurrection is attempted, the soul does not answer - not because it's been too long, but because they have chosen to stay in their afterlife. A lot of Toms and Harrys are going to want to stay in their good afterlives.

I reckon some really bad people might already be getting their souls consumed by devils or some crap, too.

For NPCs, this decision is made by DMs.

For PCs, purely by their players.

wouldnt actually make sense to add true resurrection when normal resurrection doesnt really do anything raise dead doesnt, aside from the hp diff which is insignificant compared to what they are suppose to do

basically to justify true resurrection we would need harsher death penalties like negative levels and con loss, no point to have it otherwise

This spell functions like raise dead, except that you can resurrect a creature that has been dead for as long as 10 years per caster level. This spell can even bring back creatures whose bodies have been destroyed, provided that you unambiguously identify the deceased in some fashion (reciting the deceased’s time and place of birth or death is the most common method).

Upon completion of the spell, the creature is immediately restored to full hit points, vigor, and health, with no loss of level (or Constitution points) or prepared spells.

You can revive someone killed by a death effect or someone who has been turned into an undead creature and then destroyed. This spell can also resurrect elementals or outsiders, but it can’t resurrect constructs or undead creatures.

Even true resurrection can’t restore to life a creature who has died of old age.
So in NWN2, it would be... Something that gets someone out of Fugue even after server reset? You just type name in a box, and you can raise them from the dead... Basically you could raise anyone from anywhere. You could just sit in FAI, keep eye open on scrying tool, and just raise whoever dies.

The idea is to counteract any attempts at people citing the lack of True Resurrection being mechanically available as reasoning for whatever undesirable suggestions they may have.

how is that relevant tho? perma death isnt forced upon anyone (unless DMs have reason to) which is ultimately the perk of true resurrection

Whenever I raise the absurdity of being hanged leading to permanent death in Forgotten Realms, people keep citing at me Raise Dead. When raised True Resurrection, they fall back to "not in PC spellbooks." This would quell that fall back.
