causes next spell cast to fail and gives yellow combat text to not equip items during casting

certainly does, and not only limited to spells but archmage SLA's as well

You can work around it by waiting a few seconds after casting before you attempt to cast another spell.
Which means you either want to cast it individually before you begin your buff queue, or you want to save it for the last spell in the queue.
