Thats not a bug. I have a char build around it. I updated the wiki over a half year past or more about it. see Gameplay Notes on the wiki page about the class.

Yeah it's intended, damage bonus is added on the character.

The ability description still lists the Blackflame Zealot 'melee' weapon requirements. If you just remove the word 'melee' from the description, it'll be accurate.
Anyhow, good to know that I can use the fire damage with impunity then.
