(UD) Basilics Broodmother

Unread post by NegInfinity »

I think this creature has some sort of design problem.

It feels a tad too powerful for the area, it can see invisible and it is perma hasted.

Meaning ... if you wander into the caves as low level, you see it and you're dead. You can't ran away from it (it is in the middle of the map and it is faster than you), and you can't really sneak by it, because it sees invisibility.

Also, UD, unlike surface, doesn't have CR ratings on the territories, so you have no idea what you're getting into.

I think it might be a good idea to tone down the amount of perma-hasted critters a bit overall.

I'm also unsure where the hell perma-haste came from in the first place:

It is land feet is supposed to be 20, meanign it is slower than a human.

I haven't seen any basilisks try to petrify anything in there.

However the permahasting and gnawing at ankles is annoying.

She's the same speed as all the other basilisks in that area. They've been that fast for years.

CR Area Markers are coming next update.

Here's my thing. Low level characters have been using potions of invisible to complete their quests. Which isn't terrible, but it's too easy. If you're there to grind, the area is designed so that you can grind without ever having to confront the Brood Mother.

I even added a warning suggesting something dangerous is ahead. Players think they can just pop a potion of Invisy, snatch up the quest item, and walk away unharmed. Not anymore. I'll be adding challenges from here on out. Nothing too crazy, but if they want that quest XP, players will need to strategize.
