New player questions
Hello!
1. How do I delete characters without travelling back to the Nexus?
1a. How do I get back to the Nexus?
2. How do I do the "RCR" thing, if I decide I don't like a class that I've tried for a bit and want to make something new with the experience I've built up?
3. Are there any guides to building? Such as "If you're a melee fighter, you need X, Y, and Z feats"
4. What are good classes for people who are unfamiliar to the base game as well as the server?
5. Is there a way to buy multiples of something (like healer kits) from a store?

Re: New player questions
RCR is done in the nexus and it will delete your toon at the completion of the rcr.
can go to the nexus by talking to the guy at BG eastern farmlands by the sign. dont know the script on it, becuase i have never had to use it.
try all the classes/concepts. that's what i do. find out what playstyle/RP you like the best. then ignore that and still play everything. LOL

The easiest class to play will be fighter. Easiest way to learn how to play the game will be in the single player content since you can pause the game. There's also a remake of the original Baldur's Gate game

Re: New player questions
Thanks! So far I've been having some success on a ranger. Level 3 so far, dual wielding looks fun.
Is there a specific NPC to talk to in order to do RCR? I assumed that you talk to the big glowy guy or to Death, but when I deleted previous characters I never got any dialogue about RCR.
Another question... how do I make gold? Everything's up there for a few thousand or more, and I've barely got a couple hundred gold to my name that goes into healing kits and such.

Re: New player questions
fighter is easy to play/build etc and there are things that can be learned from playing a fighter, but.....
"always a 'but' with this guy."
"i like butts."
anyway... playing only fighter doesnt teach you about divine or arcane spells that when playing a fighter come in handy either with potions, wands or scrolls. it just limits the learning. play everything. learn it all. it all works together.
dont play the campaign. its too easy. too different and lacks as much fun. just get in game and start getting that xp and gold.
spend a week on each class. level 1-10 dont RCR just keep them
id say make a fighter - easy
then play a cleric - easy
then a druid - med
then a mage - hard
then a rogue - hard

making gold will be hard at first and you will struggle. as you go, you will learn how to not only make gold but how to not spend gold to make it.

Re: New player questions
Step 1 - Buy a potion of Mage Armor (~52 gold), Barkskin (~120 gold) and Heroism (~150 gold)
Step 2 - Buy whatever weapon and armor you're going to use (pro-tip, buy a slashing and a blunt weapon)
Step 3 - Go to the graveyard and loot it while killing skeletons and Zombies.
Step 4 - Assuming potions are still up, go to the bandit cave and loot it.
Step 5 - Sell Loot (PROFIT!)
Seriously no one thinks to use simple potions, but the above 3 all last a ridiculously long time (30 minutes, 45 minutes and 50 minutes) and you can make FAR more gold than the cost. +7 AC, +2 AB and saves? Yes please! Will make most of the level 1-10 grind go fast and you'll end up making tens of thousands of gold with which to equip your character as you go. By the time you hit level 10 you'll likely have +3 armor and amulet making the first two potions no longer very beneficial, but shield potions (which only last 5 minutes) will become an important buff and Heroism will remain important.
The age old adage "you have to spend money to make money" holds true... Buying 700 gold of healing kits is far less efficient than spending 250-300 gold on potions and another 160 on 10 potions of cure light wounds. By the time those first potions have worn off you'll have made probably 2,500 gold minimum in loot and gone up to level 2.

Re: New player questions
Don't play a weak char. if you want to make gold. At least 15+ STR to carry most loot back to the vendor.

Re: New player questions
The potions trick worked awesome, thank you for recommending it! I now am comfortably level 4 with an enchanted sword.
Are there any tips or guides for the Ranger class? After a bit of wiki-poking, I'm looking to do some Ranger/Weapon Master thing with dual wield. I'd like to toss some rogue and fighter in there if it's possible, too, but it looks like there's weird rules on how you can take your classes?

Re: New player questions
You have to have at least three levels in all your classes by the time you get to level 20.
Thus a Ranger 17/Weapon Master 3 would be legal build. While a Ranger 18/Weapon Master 2 would not be legal.
As for ranger guides, this server has expanded ranger spell list, and therefore it is actually worth it to have some investment in wisdom for spellcasting. Basically a ranger character that starts out with 16 STR, and 14 in DEX and WIS will do fine, if you keep pumping up your strength score.
You can ask for specific build help in this forum: viewforum.php?f=64
