Deadly Defence and Precise Strike

Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you has experienced problems with Precise Strike and Deadly Defense.
I've just took the latter but the damage doesn't seem to stack with Precise Strike.
Just asking because if they don't stack I'm still in time to change it ^_^

The character sheet can get messed up a bit so you can't use it as an accurate depiction... Just created a QC Character and ran a test...

First, leveled to 12 (SB7/Duelist 5), did not take deadly defense.

Damage should be 1-6 + 6 (INT) + 2 (STR) + 4 (EB) + 1-6 (PS) = 14-24. After several battles the minimum damage rolled was 14 and the highest (non-crit) damage was 20. This indicates Precise Strike is applying damage since the min/max damage range without it would be 13-18.

Next I leveled up to SB10/D5 and took Deadly Defense as the feat. No other changes so damage should be 1-6 + 6 + 2 + 4 + 1-6 + 1-4 = 15-28. Again, several combats and minimum damage was 16, while the maximum was 26. Since without deadly defense I would still be at a max damage of 24 I am left with the conclusion that Deadly Defense is applying correctly.

Do note that Deadly defense requires the use of a finesse weapon AND being in either Combat Expertise or Parry mode. So if you have to activate either parry or CE and then you have to activate Deadly defense in order for the damage to apply. Hope this helps, good luck!

I tested this on on my duelist as well. Everything works fine and the damage is correct. The trick is that damage from precise strike doesn't display correctly in character sheet. Instead of 1-6 (piercing) displayed you recieve a random number between 1 and 6 added to your damage bonuses from STR/INT, and this number changes after attacks. But as I mentioned, despite the confusing numbers the actual damage output is correct.

As for deadly defense, it works fine as well, although it turns off whenever you toggle parry/CE off and you have to reactivate it (switching between parry/CE doesn't deactivate it though).

I see...
Unlike yours my damage output is still incorrect so I ran the opposite test:
I took deadly defence before getting Precise Strike. When I'm on parry mode with my rapier wielding duelist (on my Jegs module) deadly defense doesn't add any damage.
I don't know how but I'm clearly missing something here
Any suggestions?
