[A huge leaflet is nailed at the Friendly Arm Inn message board, the same can be found near the entrance to Baldur's Gate]

[parchment]Elspeth Silverleaf

The time has come.
Tomorrow at the Baldur's Gate arena. You versus me.
You will answer for all the lies and slander that has come out of your mouth.
You can bring as many "friends" as you want — I don't mind them watching your shameful defeat.
Don't try to hide behind Kalidorian's back. In fact, he will act as a referee during our duel.
Try to avoid my challenge and I will drag you to the arena by your filthy tongue.

D.

an old man dressed i blue robes and hood walks by and after putting his eyes darn inches away from the post merely says.

"Ohhohooo you youngsters and your vitality. Chukka take a look at-....chukka?
Where'd you go?"

shortly after wandering away from the sign, people can hear him calling out for someone named Chukka.

There will be no duel. I will not legitimize this murderer. Dasha, the tiefling, is a drow friend and a murderer of the Elf Priestess of the Sledarine, Kyravea; may peace be upon her in Arvandor.

Murderes do not get duels, they get the noose.

P.S. This seems to be a publicly posted threat on my life. More evidence for you conviction tiefling.

Signed
Elspeth Silverleaf

One of the notes is taken down and passed on the the Dukes authorities.

The tiefling laughs when he sees the reply from the elf. Gathering charcoal and parchment, he writes a response and tacks it below Elspeth's.
[parchment]Greetings, Elspeth!

"Murderer"? That's rich, coming from ye. Surely nay one will believe thy lies anymore?!
I suspect ye cannot present any actual evidence of this murder ye accuse Dasha of, aye? Then 'tis nay admissible in court and, more than likely, a false accusation. Furthermore, a duel is nay a 'threat on thy life', but if ye are too craven for a duel... that is thy choice.

Good visitors of the Friendly Arms Inn, who would ye believe, an honest merchant such as Dasha or this elf harridan?!

Signed,
Malign Ashmeddai[/parchment]

An unasked for and probably unwanted note is posted as a reply.

[parchment]You are an idiot.

If you want someone dead, you do not give them an open threat or, gods forbid, a challenge. What kind of idiot does that? You. You are that idiot.

With (absolutely no) respect,

Lauron Ivaranth[/parchment]

Mathias Byrne flips through the pile on of notes, one on top of the other and shakes his head. After considering his options, he realizes, one more won't make much of a difference.

[parchment]Witness testimony is what counts as proof. I can't reckon just what you define as 'absolute' proof but typically when someone asks for that it means they're hiding something.

And with a name like Malign, which bluntly translates into 'evil in nature or effect', I'm not that confident in you being a reputable source for discussing legal and ethical law techniques.

Signed,

M.B.[/parchment]

Malign shakes his head, chuckling. He writes another letter.
[parchment]Greetings, M.B.!

Witness testimony assumes one is telling the truth under oath, which Elspeth has not historically done when it comes to tieflings (or anyone else she regards as 'evil'). Reputation, once established, is hard to throw off, aye? Her 'testimony' is dubious, at best, in this matter.
If this Dasha is guilty of murder, then physical evidence will come forth, and I will be among those to call for her execution.

As for my name, have ye considered that it was taken exactly because those of my race, tieflings, are typically ill-treated by the nescient? For, another definition is 'to utter injuriously misleading or false reports about'. Mayhap, 'tis a form of assertion against such obsolete notions as thy tic over my name, as well? I believe in judging one by his actions, not by his name or his race.

Signed,
Malign Ashmeddai[/parchment]

[parchment]Hello Malign,

I hope I will not be judged on my name either, only on the actions I take. A name means nothing after all.

Upon seeing the further reply later, Malign just laughs and walks away. "Oh, how clever! Mmmm, truly," the tiefling says, his Thayan accent thick with sarcasm. He decides it's not worth any more of his time.
