Baldur's Gate : The Sword Coast Chronicles : NWN2 Persistent World

i had to get some new hardware and it is running win 10. after a few days of playing with it, i am experiencing crashes that seem to be caused by some graphical issue. the hardware should be more than capable of running the game. running the client extension with the auto-pathing disabled seems to help, but does not eliminate the issue.

does anyone know what might be going on here?

My first bet would be to update your video drivers.
Then I'd ask you if you're using skywings ...

yes and yes.

windows does give me an explanation of the failure, but i do not remember what it is. when i get home, i will post the full description as given by the OS. perhaps that will help.

Reinstalling the (old) directx runtime is often a good start.

Was it a BSOD? WhoCrashed can get crash dumps.

way over my head. i do not know that much about computers. i can barely figure out how to install the CE.

You can try to play the game in compability mode

When the game crashed was it the entire computer that crashed or just the game? If it was the computer, did you get a BSOD, also known as Blue Screen of Death - Basically a blue screen with a lot of information including the error code? Though it sounds like its just the game crashing.

Update your computer's drivers, especially the video drivers, but the error can come from a variety of things.

compatibility mode in an earlier windows version can help, also right click and run as administrator.

i see. no comp runs fine. what happens is screen goes black then a second later windows shuts down the application and win10 then tells me something like the graphics caused a fault and closed the application. if i try running without CE it runs pretty well. i can try running the game all night tonight without the client extension. but with the CE but not disabling the movement prediction thing, /mpredict, it wont go 20 mins before it crashes. with move predict disabled it will last much longer. but still crashed about 6 times last night (4hrs) on that machine. once in soubar. thrice in naga cave. once in yuan-ti dungeon. and one more time in troll cave.

i will try running without CE and if it still crashes. i will then try to run on admin. after that i will try running it compatibility mode.

Download the DX9.0c redis here , run DXSETUP.exe as admin. Set in game visuals to lowest save for the resolution.

ran it last night on admin mode with out the CE all night and had no crashes.

win10 pretty much hates games, most all old ones have to be ran in compatibility mode and admin

nwn2 and some of my others also have to be ran as windowed and not full screen or else it will freeze when you try to change settings, i dont run CE tho so not sure if you will get that one at some point
