History
In the Luskan streets, born a bastard and son of a harlot Tiefling. Percy has learned to survive by making friends in the right places, and using his words before he would act. Percy would join a ship crew of smugglers later in life on board the “Second wind”, running illicit cargo up and down the sword coast to those that payed well enough.

Some years after, some one tipped off the law and two ships intercepted the ship Percy was on. The “Second wind” was sunk by the end of the heated battle due to being rammed by one of the other ships that intercepted it.

Percy survived after the fact by laying on some wreckage of the old ship that eventually washed up on shore in the North. Haunted by the memory, Percy would pray to Umberlee off and on in fear of drowning when at sea. Percy is out for the law and it’s supporters, by smuggling further he hopes to weaken them to the point they are open for an attack.

Core Goals
- Help power-play against the law by smuggling for those he his in-favor of, or pays well.
- To perhaps, one day, return as an upstanding citizen to all the land after he has gained a fair amount of coin through unscrupulous means.

Habits
- He tends to stretch the truth for the sake of a good story.
- He would never pass up a friendly wager.
- He tends to work hard so that he can play hard when the work is done.
- Prefers to use his words as a first resort reaction to conflict from others, but is not afraid to fight it out either.
- Being ill-educated with literacy, when Percy is taking notes on parchment, he would write down symbols and utilize imagery rather than write word to word.
- Tends to roll a coin piece between his knuckles when nervous.

INTRO (( WIP collective log for reason of being ))

Perseverance (“Percy”) was born in the Luskan streets, as bastard and son of a harlot Tiefling called Grace. Grace cared little for Percy and only saw him as a burden she had to shoulder. Yet, she felt a responsibility for Percy by nature. Percy was raised by Grace to care little for others and only worry about self to survive.

One must look out for number one to survive is such environments…

Percy learned fast that, due to his lack of natural strength, he was not good in a fight. Percy also learned he was a magical prodigy. And he learned right quick to be diplomatic when caught in the thick of it, and more. A favor for a pardon, a gift to another to talk in the presence of those who may seem hostile, a hidden truth told in every story told. When Percy was caught as a liar, he would admit it to rebuild credibility.

I don’t need to hide what I don’t fear…

By the age of thirteen Percy was caught stealing food from the docks of Luskan and rather than fight his way out of it, he told them that he’d work off his debt. So, Percy was press-ganged into a crew of pirates and smugglers, aboard the ‘Second Wind’. It was there that one of the crewmates taught him how to use a bow and lighter weaponry in case intercepted, scrub the deck, and do just about all duties no one else would want to be tasked with that was on board. Percy learned to follow orders right quick and get the job done fast before all else.

This is better than being on the streets, that I do know...

Percy learned to adapt to new cultured and surroundings by blending in and sharing values of others. He may not be the most trusted, but some trust is better than none for a Tiefling, in many regions. Percy learned tales from far abroad. The ‘Second Wind’ would have smuggled weapons and other assortments in unmarked crates to Serfs turned bandits, along the Sword Coast.

Where one man's freedom ends, is where another man’s freedom begins...

One day, when Percy was around the age of twenty-eight, on a rainy day at sea, the ‘Second Wind’ was intercepted by one of the Lord Alliance’s naval ships, as it was returning to the free port of Luskan. The battle was long, bloody, and fierce. Hooks latched onto the Starboard side, and the ‘Second Wind’ was boarded. Steel clashed, battle cries were heard, the dying moaned as they lay cold along the wet deck. The ‘Second Wind’ seemed to be winning when another of the crew shouted… “Port side, brace for impact!”… There was little time to react, as a second Lords Alliance ship had rammed into the ‘Second Wind’ - forcing all on board to stagger or be knocked prone. Soon after, the first Lords Alliance ship cut ties to the boarding ropes and both of Lords Alliance ships sailed back to where they came.

We had it coming, yet we were too blind to see it...

As the ‘Second Wind’ slowly sank, some of the others would have given their lives to Umberlee and curse Bashaba for this undoing. Once the ship had sunk, Percy laid on some driftwood remains of his former ship. He was slowly drifting at sea, jumping at anything in the water that would move around him as he talked to Umberlee in prayer...
“How long have I laid here, and does it even matter?...” Percy would ask himself off and on till he drifted to land while in slumber. Percy awoke near the town of Roaring Shore.

What remained is now lost, I must find it again...

Percy dedicated the next six years in search of purpose, outside in the rough frontier, hate for the Lords Alliance in every step. He took along the roads as a drifter, but had not bothered with taking action against Lords Alliance during his travels. He was simply left with none he felt that he could trust. It didn’t matter the destination. Percy didn’t not care, and he was never satisfied with the results of locations he had been at (after the trauma). Questioning himself and others around him, unsure what lays before his eyes, Percy used his skills to tell a tale or two for coin and run courier jobs to the any given destination. Sometimes Percy made off with the courier box contents himself, and other times he did as tasked. It depended if the pay was better. This was his logical excuse to move from place to place. Percy also had keeping a drawing of each individual he enjoyed being around. By memory or on the spot it, it did not matter. It was a reminder that he may just still exist for a valid purpose…

There must be something out there, something better...

IC:

Perseverance for some tendays has been deep in thought, debating on more than a few things related to one situation.

“I'm not impressed…” He would say as he sits by a fire in a forest away from others eyes and ears.

He reflects about his time since his arrival to Baldur’s Gate.
“It's time to make way for those who have new ideas, those who have less of a tarnished reputation, those who not only are privileged but deserving of rule and able to maintain, those who can accept responsibility of their actions, those who can get things done correctly… Those who are overall stronger leaders.”
He looks around before he looks back to the fire as a focal point to maintain concentration. He pokes the fire with a stick for a moment as he thinks more.

“Many think the Flaming Fists are unreliable. What then when order breaks? The citizens I talk too have strong views on their lack abilities in enforcement.”
He puts the stick down to take a flask from within his jacket for a swig. “Someone has to take a stand and do their job for them. Might as well be me, considering I have not seen a single person try and get their hands dirty on the matter.”
He would rest his back against a tree as he slipped into sleep.

OOC:
New goals:
- Take key people out of power, as compelled, in a broad amount of regions.
- Help maintain law and order through chaotic means.

It’s no secret to others that Perseverance had a desire to return to his one true love, the open sea. With not even a goodbye to others he would try to leave quietly, out of fear by defecting as a Zhentarim recruit to return to ship life up in Luskan. It’s there, that he would hope to live as a free tiefling once more, or as free as one could be within reason.

Often Perseverance would describe the open sea with these words; There’s nothing quite like it. The night sky beaming down upon the ocean black, the sound of the waves crashing up against the hull and the wind blowing against your face... It’s peaceful as it is chaotic, beautiful as it is dangerous. and overall a desire sought by many abroad after a long absence, that’s how I would describe love.
