Best if you specify what 'kind' of cleric you're after? Buff'n'bash EDM? DC Hiero? Thauma? HIPS Darkflame? Mixture?

What deity? This impacts on domain choices. I'm presuming Lolth but it could be something else.

For Darkfire Disciple with HiPS you really only have two options in my opinion. (EDIT: Obviously you have other options, but these are the strongest options IMO)

1. C14/R3/SD3/DFD10 - Caster Level 26 (with PSC) and 5d6 sneak dice. Gets a few more skill points thanks to 8 per level (rogue), 6 per level (Shadow Dancer) and ability to start R at level 1 for the option to at least have 4 SP in several skills. Also can get HiPS earlier, can disable traps above DC20 and can realize the idea a little sooner (that being of a rogue/cleric hybrid.

2. C8/A8/DFD10/H4 - Caster Level 26 (with PSC) and 7d6 sneak dice. Overall better in my opinion. However, it does have fewer skill points and leveling requires a lot of patience. You have to qualify for Hierophant by level 18 due to 3b20, which requires level 7 spell casting or C7/DFD7 (no progression at DFD 4 or 8). This means at 20 you are C7/DFD7/A3/H3 so the earliest you can get HiPS is level 25. I play a W5/EK9/A8/AT8 which gets HiPS at 25 and it is kind of painful only in the sense that damage is pretty low until you can utilize HiPS to land more sneak/death attacks. However, end game it has +2d6 sneak dice and the same caster level. You can, of course drop Hierophant and get HiPS earlier, at a cost of 2 caster levels. For me I always want CL25 at a minimum which makes it so Only Greater Dispels/mords/breaches can work on you (and breaches are a bit less an issue for divine caster). CL24 has a chance to be stripped by a regular dispel, but with HiPS I suppose you can risk it if you want to realize your character earlier in leveling.

good thing about a cleric build the way chad has them, use your cleric spells not to buff and bash but think of them as disposable spells. ones that will not make or break your survivability, but make life easier. Divine power, recitation, battletide, summons, damage spells, debuffs, dispells, stuff that cannot get dispelled or doesnt matter if it does.

cleric is pretty survivable without 300 buffs on it. especially so if you can hips out. can think offensive with your spell book. sort of like i/we do with SF builds.
