he wants to be good in melee and have a high resistance to spells.

mentioned templar from dragon age, but i have no idea what that means.

sounds to me like an FvS of ilneval would be good.

also like C10/Hos10/Hie10 of Gruumsh would be good too. probably like that better actually.

Any CHA cleric with Advanced Divine Spell Power from Hierophant can get CL 38+ for their Spell Resistance spell, meaning 50+ SR. And you're still just a divine power away from melee godmode.

Wisdom based Cleric17/Hierophant10/WP3

Try to get the animal domain + natural bond + epic animal companion. That will tke care much of the melee

Advanced divine spell power will give you an extra CL, maybe even a DC without worrying about the negatives. WP another DC from the reduced saves, Hiero spell power another DC. Spell focus if you want to specialise, then the dcs would be excellent.

On top of it all, you will always have full turning. If Malar, then the evil domain, will make you able to turn outsiders such as the balor.

So a cleric of malar with animal and evil domain with 12CHA and max wisdom, will take care of everything. Alternatively, you cna forget the wisdom and go STR with the same build. Maybe invest more on WP if so.

yes, it will at WP9 the companion will lose 2 levels. With the feats, it will be as a rangers companion with no feats. which is good already. But yes, not having spells such as barkskin, makes those two extra levels crucial since MV works only on the humanoid companion - i think.

so if going str with 9 WP levels, better going Gruumsh or Bahgtru for str domain. fury for Bahgtru and tyranny if Gruumsh.

it depends what you want to do. Turning has limited use, but with the hiero feats you can still turn high hd mobs, such as liches and the balor ( if evil domain ) just fine.

Personally i never bothered with the STR domain. You dont need to have Divine power on all the time. My favorite two domains are plant and animal for the animal companion and barkskin - the latter means that you can dump Wisdom to 15 and use the +4wisdom amulet. A close third is the water domain followed by the evil. All the rest domains, feel meh for an str cleric.

My favorite melee cleric build is a Cleric/Harperpriest/Hierophant/ranger. A full progression animal companion, evasion, detection, tracking, manyshot with brutal throw (axes ) and CL28. It has everything i like and if i didnt like full rangers as much, that character would be my main.

Barbarian 20/Divine Champion 10... You go for Standard Rage and either maximum strength or enough constitution for Epic Damage Resistance or Fast Healing. The standard rage gives you massive boost to your will saves, and combined with Steadfast Determination that boost is even higher. Then Divine Champion gives you to +5 saves accross the board, which means that you are not exactly failing any fortitude or will saves. You can put on that shimmering cloak for a bit of spell resistance too.

Now, another option is an Epic Divine Might based Fighter 12/Blackguard 3/Frenzied Berserker 5/Divine Champion 10. You got your charisma modifier to saves and damage, which means that you can freely switch between Improved Combat Expertise and Improved Power Attack depending on the situation. You can even put up that tower shield with Improved Combat Expertise and thanks to Epic Divine Might and Weapon Specialization feats you will still deal damage. It works even better as a drow since they get the innate spell resistance and handy racial ability modifiers.

Another build to consider could be that Fighter 12/Warrior of Darkness 10/Divine Champion 8.

The templars from dragon age were pretty much just Lawful Neutral-Lawful Evil Paladins. Thus some Man at Arms 26/Blackguard 4 could also work rather well.
