Help with a human Barbarian Two Hander build?

Unread post by redwood »

Hello again everyone. I'm not very good at building characters. I have been thinking about roleplaying a barbarian of the Uthgardt Ghost Tree tribe again. I've little idea where to begin. Here are a few builds i've been browsing

http://nwn2db.com/build/?251023

http://nwn2db.com/build/?290670

http://nwn2db.com/build/?119410

I've searched the forum extensively and found good advice recommending a Barbarian 20 Divine Champion 10 build for the +5 bonus to saves. The one I found doesn't seem to have optimal feats but I don't know much about builds as I mentioned. Currently I'm trying to follow the second build, it seems to be the newest. Also, I might add I would prefer the build not have any ability scores below 10. I'm just looking for a build that can do well with a two handed weapon. Any advice would be helpful. Have a nice day.

You wanted to play as a human right, and from the Uthgardt Ghost Tree tribe? Divine Champion Barbarian build? Two-handed build?

http://nwn2db.com/build/?293707 <= I would use that build.

Evasion (Gained at Barbarian 18) does not work while in medium or heavy armor. You can make use of light armor still though. For example you can buy Mithral Chain Mail from the elves along with potions of Cat's Grace. Thus that dexterity of 14 is enough to get 10 AC out of your armor.

AC:
10 (Base)
+ 6 (Mithral Chain Mail)
+ 4 (Dexterity modifier with +4 potion.)
+ 4 (+4 Armor Enchantment Bracers)
+ 4 (Deflection Cloak)
+ 4 (Dodge Boots)
+ 8 (Natural Armor from Epic Rage, thanks to Ice Troll Berserker)
+ 5 (Dodge AC from Epic RAge, Whirlwind Frenzy)
+ 1 (Tumble)
+ 1 (Armor Skin)
+ 2 (Barbarian 20 AC bonus)
- 2 (Northlander Hewing)
= 47

Naturally, you can use a wand of shield for +4 AC. Or perhaps turn on Improved or regular Combat Expertise for either +6 or +3 AC at the cost of -6 or -3 AB.

Oh, and you should keep trying out in order to see if you kill mobs faster with Northlander Hewing on or off. Sometimes mobs have low AC, in which case the higher number of attacks actually deals more damage than with Northlander Hewing on, while at times the mob DR requires Northlander Hewing to be on.

Thus basically, if you have ICE on, but not Northlander Hewing, you are sitting at 55 AC. 59 if you throw in that shield AC. This is very solid AC for a two-handed warrior.

Then, thanks to all those Extend Rage feats you've taken, you can basically rage until the end of the rest timer.

Thanks a bunch! I'll try that.

I had a quick question. Wouldn't it be better to get luck of heroes at level 1 than armor skin at level 30? I mean because it adds 1 AC and a bonus to all saves? Or can you not get extend rage as a Divine Champion feat?

I do not think you can use those Divine Champion feats to get Extend Rage feats on this server. At least it has not been listed on the wiki, and I do not recall seeing the possibility when last leveling a Barbarian/Divine Champion.

As for Luck of Heroes, you can take it but it comes at expense of some other feat.

Basically, you could drop Able Learner, which will limit your skill points considerably. You will have to re-do the skill points, and you do actually need that 13~ UMD to use all items, while 10 Tumble is nice for the +1 AC, and 15 Spellcraft for +3 against spells. You can get those three skills no problem, but you will have fewer skill points to put on other things.

Then the other way to do it is to delay the Ice-troll Berserker feat and drop out one of the Extend Rage feats. This will reduce your over all rage duration by 40 rounds, four minutes. The rest timer is something like 20-30 minutes in the epics and I think you can see why it is a consideable loss at quality of life. Now, Extend Rage III is actually enough to get by and I have done it on several of my Whirlwind Frenzy characters, but longer duration is still better. But if you choose to drop the Extend Rage, you will have to pick Ice-troll at level 9, Extend Rage I at level 15, Extend Rage II at level 18, and Extend Rage III at level 24. The duration progression might feel somewhat sluggish against the rest timer. (But this is also affected by your play style too...)

So I guess that is about that. If you really want Luck of Heroes, then later Ice-troll Berserker feat at the Expense of Extend Rage IV might be your best bet.

Thank you for answering my question. I think i'll just follow your build as it is.
