Windows 10 and client extension

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread, but it's not bug with the PW. I thought I'd ask if anyone else using windows 10 has started having the same problem I am.

An update installed last night and once it rebooted I tried to start up the game and got an error when trying to run the client extension. It tells me it can't find the game install location. I checked the registry, tried to run it with admin privileges, and got nothing. I did manage to work around it by manually running clientextention.hdl after starting the game, but that's a little clunky. I guess I can live with it though, if that's my only option.

I'm not even sure why the update caused issues, since it was a microcode update for intel cpu's and I have an AMD processor. Has anyone else had this issue and managed to fix it? Does anyone know if anyone still updates the client extension? I noticed it's most recent version is from four years ago so that doesn't seem encouraging.

When i had this problem it was simply because i was not running it as administrator. Windows 10 is rather annoying for not letting things run without permission. other than that the readme had a few steps to try

Yeah, I've already ran it as administrator and tried all the steps listed in the FAQ. It was working fine before the update installed so I'm pretty sure the update changed something that broke the client extension.

I used to work in tech support so I'm pretty handy at working with regedit.

I had similar problems, and decided that the CE is not worth the crashes. Just running NWN2 on win10 is problematic and need to run it in compatibility mode to stop crashing every 10 minutes. There are fixes for it, but I am not having too much success running the CE on win10.

Not using the Client Extension either, the game always feels like it's close to crashing with it, movement/camera movement is jittery and (mpredict or not) my characters tend to jump around a lot. Without it though NWN2 runs quite fine and stable on Windows 10, I forgot if I use compatibility mode or not, only logging into the server rarely works without a crash on the first attempt. I only wish there was an easier way to save log files than saving them manually, the only real reason I'd use the CE in the first place.

Thanks for the advice, takes a bit longer to log in, but it does seem to run better.

Are you using direct connect or just "join internet game"? The latter takes an eternity since the game tries to connect to Gamespy. Best just use direct connect, for the IP type in "game.bgtscc.net" without the quotes. It will remember the IP too so as long as you're not server hopping you won't have to retype it every time.
