Are there any enchanters in his game and if so, how do you go about enchanting already enchanted equipment?

There is no enchanting/crafting on BG at this time. Maybe some day

Not a problem, just glad I didn't buy any mithril equipment because there is no way to enchant any of it.

Considering 'Bracers' (specifically separate from 'Gloves') provide an 'Armor' bonus to AC, having a set of AC+ bracers/mithral armor can provide a trade-off between the two equipment slots, in terms of the stats provided by each.
EDIT: On the chance that I didn't explain myself well enough: A character has an Armor bonus to AC based on the type of armor they have equipped. The character may have an enhancement Armor bonus to AC on top of that.
Character 1: A character with a suit of +4 mithral mail.
Character 2: A character with a suit of unenchanted mithral mail and a set of +4 AC Bracers.
Character 1 and 2, excluding all other equipment slots, will have the same AC.

Mithral gear can also have enchantments on it.
I've seen a mithral full-plate +3, which would net 1 more AC than iron full-plate +4 due to the increased Dex mod.
Not seen any +4's yet, but who knows.

I recall someone mentioning finding MFP +4 a while back...potions of mage armor cost about 50 gold each and last 30 minutes.
