If you like character building, this is a great server to play on. There are custom rules for character creation here but there are a friggin lot of options for classes combos.
Use
http://nwn2db.com and put BGTSCC in your search field for class ideas. Look in 'Server Rules and Content' on this forum for the custom classes and changes etc.
There is a fair bit to explore for new players. You can grind your way up solo or with others. There are about a dozen weekly quests you can do if you get bored of grinding. Getting Experience is not hard on the server and so you can level up fairly quickly (imo). As you may know some classes are easier at it than others. You get good exp for RPing with others btw.
Lore wise things try to stay as close to Forgotten Realms, Sword Coast Cannon as possible. Current year 1354.
There are a lot of factions you can join. I find joining the right faction can really help give your Character purpose on this server.
DM's will pop up from time to time to do a spontanious events. And they are also running longer plot lines usually involving a new threat to the Coast that needs to be stopped. They can be really helpful. Be nice to them, they do it for free.
There is a duration between between rests, but it is reasonable.
PVP is sort of frowned upon....sort of. There are fairly strict PVP rules, mostly to prevent melo-drama in game. Everyone is allowed a 'PVP out'. Which means if someone does not want to participate in pvp they can simply walk away.
There are an average of 40 players on at any one time. It can go much higher or lower depending on the time of the day/week.
There is an underdark- which often has issues with low population. There are a fair number of drow around though.
The Drow and Orcs are technically kill on sight but they seem to have a fairly solid player base of great players and seem to have a lot of fun.
Lets see what else...
The elves are haughty, the hin are saucy, the dwarves are drunk, the humans are aasimars, and the teiflings have tails. Okay okay....not all the dwarves are drunk...some of them are "just buzzed".
