Spell Failure Do Not Equip Items When Casting issue

Every time I cast Mord's and then follow up with an epic spell I get the error. It is awfully frustrating, seeing as I sometimes need that one two combo to not die. Any way to fix this?

This is on a wizard/red wizard/archmage

Ah the quicker casting time of the epic spells kicking in .. duely noted.
