Looking for a Drow to help with RP ((OOC))

Unread post by Bulldog241 »

Hello! I am pondering starting up a new character in the underdark, but the concept I had in mind requires someone else to RP with. Let me explain:

I'm going to build a barbarian Durger who is a slave to a Drow. He'll be quite dumb as relying on others to tell him what to do as drained away what little decision making he may have had. Though he is certainly still smart enough to follow an order. He's been a slave his whole life and as such has been broken and resigned himself to servitude. The constant manual labor has made him quite strong, however, and the constant beatings have toughed him up immensely. Occasionally he will fly into a rage after a beating which has nearly gotten him killed more then once. So now he'll usually just walk over to the nearest rock and start punching it until the feeling has passed, least he upset his master.

Now this concept, I imagine, will get quite boring RPing it by myself which is why I'm looking for an UD player to RP it with. Anybody out there looking for a Durger slave? :D I usually play at around midnight EST for a few hours, so someone who comes online regularly at the same time would be ideal. Lemme know if there is any interest! Thanks!

I am interested but not sure how steady my schedule will be until mid-june (after spring term) If you can wait that long I can game with you until mid-september (fall term)... After summer my free-time is sporadic. I normally can game 1-2 am eastern-time mid night at the earliest.

If you can wait that long I'd be very interested.

Depending on what flavour RP you like, there’s a Lolthite House called Mori’hyanda. It would offer the benefit that instead of being attached to only one single person and being dependent on the person to be on/in the mood, there’s a whole House filled with power crazy drow willing to beat your slave around a bit =P

Of course it’s a matter of taste and I can’t guarantee anything, personally my character hardly (if ever) interacts with the slaves for anything else than whipping them into the fray.

Here’s a snip of our internal ranking system:
Amal'launim wrote:
Work Force
Slave / Rothe wrote: The Slaves of a Lolthian House are poorly treated. In fact most are abused to such an extent a healthy young human being, will last no longer than 5 – 10 years. Slaves perform all menial work in the House, from cleaning and scrubbing the floors to working in the quarry. They never perform skilled work such as painting, decorating, or sculpting. In battle they are sent in first regardless of their abilities, used only with the intent to wear down the enemy’s forces before the true warriors. Slaves are degraded, humiliated, abused, and all in all live a most horrible existence. Do not expect to be acknowledged for anything good or even spoken to by any high ranking House members. Slaves mainly consist of non-drow, or the occasional disobedient drow who has angered the Matron. Be advised, if you do chose to play a slave you will never leave the Work Force unless you are a drow and in this case only on very rare occasions.

Requirement: Must be
- Sufficiently broken and submissive. Unruly slaves are killed, not endured.
Advancement: You do not advance to a slave; you are claimed/captured/purchased by a member of the House. Be that an initiate or the Matron, you’re still considered filth at the very best. If anyone wishes to become a slave contact either the Matron or one of the House Masters OOCly and we will arrange your capture.
Favoured Slave wrote: A slave who has, despite cruel treatment, shown remarkable loyalty is picked by one of the Masters as a favoured slave. There can only be one favoured slave per three active slaves in a House. They work as overseers of the slaves, directing and participating in the menial labour or whipping the disobedient slaves into order. In turn the favoured slave is given certain small privileges, such as better food, water, and a blanket in the sleeping quarters. They are held responsible for any escaped slaves and as such would do well not to instil a rebellion by working their fellow slaves too harshly, but should also keep them working hard enough to satisfy their cruel masters least they end up on the whipping post. You will not be treated better by high ranking drow for this position, the difference is that you know how to stay out of their way and behave in a manner so they hardly notice you’re there.

Requirement:
- Non-drow.
Advancement: Picked by a House Master, most often the Weapons Master as none of the three others bother with such trivial matters. Least of all the Matron.

To Fall: I was deffeintly looking to start this character much sooner then that, like in the next few days.

Amal: That is an intersting idea, and it would certainly ensure that I don't have to wait for one particular player. When I first started with this concept I was thinking mostly about a 1 on 1 type thing with one player, but I'll consider this also. After reading the description I was wondering something though.

Would such slaves be permitted to go outside the city on work/errands? In other words, would my character get a chance to fight any monsters for xp? While I'm all for heavy RP, I would like a chance to level up eventually. I'm thinking more along the lines of:

Drow: "Go collect bettle shells (claws? whatever the UD quest is) so that I can turn them in for some gold!"
Me: "Yes master"

Or something similar to that. Just as long as I'm not stuck in the city forever.

Aside from this very interesting proposal, is there any other way for my barb to be a slave to a player? Or would it be unusual for a drow to walk around Sshamath with their own personal slave that wasn't tied to any house?

Thanks!

Heya Bulldog,

Interesting RP idea ya have there, and I must say it is rare for another to want to be a slave. Anyhow, just want to ask if this was your first UD character, and if so if you had read the lore on Sshamath? In general, duergar aren't slaves in the city, just non-citizens. However, if your master was a visitor to the city and you his slave, you would still stay a slave.

Just curious, did you entertain the idea of being a half-orc tanaruk? They are considered a non-spell casting race by the conclave and therefore allowed to be made into slaves.

Well, just an idea out to ya. See ya around ingame
I'm the guy that kills you by using your own greed and stupidity against you while making you laugh about it.
Enjoy!

He’d most likely be a battle thrall, if you want to grind for a bit then just say you’ve been ordered to clear out the tunnels of vermin/monsters, find valuables etc. etc. etc. I doubt many would question what you were doing in a grinding area, or why.

Generally I think it’s hard getting any slave RP in Sshamath at all, when considering the following piece of lore:
Kelsfar wrote: Noncitizens
While the drow of Sshamath hold themselves above all other races, they do cede a modicum of respect to races capable of true wizardry. As such, slaves include only those races deemed incapable of manipulating wizardly magic, such as chitines, goblins, grimlocks, minotaurs, and ogres. Members of these and similar races who can use arcane magic are seen as anomalies or trick ponies rather than indications of wizardly ability for the race. Notable races excluded from slavery (except as slaves of visitors) include elves, humans, svirfneblin, and deep Imaskari. Constructs, conjured creatures, and controlled undead are considered objects, even when capable of wizardry, and have no rights. Races capable of wizardry who reach Sshamath of their own accord as free-willed beings have the right to remain within the city for as long as they obey its laws and conduct ongoing business with residents.

The way we’ve worked around it in House Mori’hyanda for those interested in slave RP is that they’ve been captured outside Sshamath / brought in from another city and thus wasn’t free when they arrived.

As for playing a slave I would advise those interested to go with an organisation rather than a single individual (unless you know the individual well enough / played with them before). It would be sad to throw away your effort / concept due to a single slave owner going missing after X days/weeks and it just turns out to be silly RP if you bounce from one owner to the other every month.
The organisations in Sshamath that I know of are: The Charnag Maelthra and Bregan D’earthe.

What can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment. :) It just seemed like an interesting idea to explore, and if it doesn't work out after a few levels I can always abandon it. I figure it's worth a shot.

And yes, this is my first UD character, though I've been to the UD before with my surface characters. I didn't realize there would be any problem with Durger's being slaves, though. I really did have my heart set on playing one of them.

Amal: If it's alright with you, I'd like to give this a try. Is there a list of House Mori'hyanda players I can see so I know who to RP with?
