Background: Born in a small, no name village just south of Berdusk, Valdur lived a relatively simple life until apprenticed to the local hedge wizard at the age of 16, for five years he toiled to learn the basics of The Art and learned to pay (at least passing) homage to Mystra, the goddess of magic. Finally in his 21st year he said goodbye to his parents, neighbors, and mentor and made his way to Berdusk, and from there down the River Chionthar to Baldur's Gate. To those who ask, the reason he left is that 'Small towns breed small people, and I don't want to be small.'
