Announcing Nerfs and Locking Player Feedback

I saw that the DP nerf thread was locked. I think it's pretty poor practice to announce nerfs and then not allow further player feedback. There was some constructive discussion going on. To me it feels like the players are not part of the conversation.

Normal practices of unchecked power and tyrannical ideals....... then hide behind greater good and other ideals of collectivism.

The fact that either of you continue to enjoy posting privileges is proof enough that your concerns about 'tyranny' are unfounded.

We (the community at large) ask all players here, every member of our community, to abide by the same rules, to respect decorum, and maintain the same tone and tenor with one another to keep a productive environment.

In the end, this is a gaming forum about a game, where we discuss our opinions and those that run the server, maintain the server, and update the server are going to listen to our opinions while creating a world within their world view.

While our opinions are heard, they may not be agreed with, and that's just life. Our only votes that matter are in whether we play here or not.

So feel free to voice your opinion within the rules. Just don't expect tantrums to decide policy.

As Maecius pointed out threads like that can get very close to going off the rails and turning into a full on brawl

So from that prospective I can understand why they did it, not to silence us but to probably help tame a wild beast before it gets lose ;)

Alright, I understand that. I'm not suggesting tyranny. I just had some thoughts on it I wanted to reply with and I found out I couldn't, which is very frustrating.

If suggestion coming soon is only there to post announcements and not receive feedback, then why let players post replies there at all?

Most of us have been on the server for years (if not a decade or more). Many of us feel like shit when we hear about a member passing, we feel happy when a member says they are getting married, we feel angry when the server is DDoSed, we feel confused when maecius writes music, we laugh when we read community comics, so maybe.... just maybe we all care so much about the server and the community it is built upon that something changes in it our reactions are strong. Yay or nay those changes as you wish but I hope the grudges formed in the flamewars of 19' don't stand long.

It is to generate feedback, Ewe, and to open the floor to Q&A. But that feedback, and, or, the Q&A, still has to comply with the server's forum rules -- as published here.

Generally threads are locked for one of two reasons:

1) Forum rules are being violated and emotions are running high: And now people are being mean to each other instead of rationally discussing the issues. (Here the thread is being locked for rules violations)
2) The OP was a question posed and it has now received an official answer; usually, but not always, from a staff member. (Here the thread is being locked so that the answer is readily available to players wondering what the official word on something is)

If you have suggestions, you're welcome to share them privately in a PM for now. But the conversation in the thread in question had run its course, and people were just not being very kind to each other anymore. At the very least, it needs a few days of cool down time before it's reopened, so that everyone getting worked up over it (on both sides) has some time to come to terms with their emotional responses.

I maintain that I was doing the community a service by exposing you. Your bardic pretensions must be stopped.

I'm basically a paladin.

It’s just not really fair to all the other people trying to have actual feedback if it’s locked over a couple people breaking forum rules.

Welcome to my world!

I’m sure I’m in the running for “Most Created-Then-Locked Threads,” over the...decade. *shudders*

I can think of one other that might have more, but the player in question loved to troll the boards.

And most of the "Created-Then-Locked Threads" didn't have to do with game balance; staff tends to let those go until they get hostile and/or inane.

I'm concerned as well. I didn't know Paladins of Beshaba could exist.

Maybe instead of nerfing all these classes, we should just go back to nerfing charraj.

Anyways, I just wanted to share how an arena server would balance these spells.
Divine Favor, Divine Power: The following spells and feats are weakened when used together: Divine Favor, Divine Power, Divine Shield and Bard Song. The first one used is at full power but any subsequent are half power (but duration is unchanged), but Divine Favor is simply removed when Divine Power is used. (Alternatively, you can set which one will always be at full power using the PC wand.) Divine Favor: The caster gains a +1 bonus for every 4 caster levels (instead of 3). Divine Power never provides an extra attack per round.
