Halberds on BGTSCC

What are some epic types of Halberds readily available at merchants, or in the Loot Table? Someone asked me if a halberd-wielding melee type would be "worth it" in terms of a weapon choice, and I considered how rarely I saw halberds of Epic Quality at the Consignment NPC, or even on drops, which might make this weapon choice not as interesting as say Warmace or even Greatsword, as I've seen they are well represented at the Epic merchants.

Have I just missed those existing Halberds? Can I get a witness?

There is a very good one for sale at a bg merchant. +4 eb, 1d4 bonus bludgeoning... might have some other bonus but I forget (been about 18 months since i played my halberd fighter). I had a loot table one lent to me that was very good as well but dont recall the stats. Suffice to say that yes there are good ones available.

idk, i have a halberd WM and i wouldnt use either of those

i think my best one is just +4 EB honestly, and i think i have one thats extra melee damage blunt but like my other ones with elemental damage it either has low or no EB on it

and of course my best one to have enhanced is the vamp regen

i cant get in game atm or id look to see what they were exactly, but i have not found a halberd with +3 and a good stat on it since ive played but this was also before the loot revamp, pretty sure most mine are +1 or 2 EB and something else, minus the +3 vamp which has nothing else

but more on why i wouldnt use those for my WM
keen doesnt stack with imp crit
massive crit doesnt stack with overwhelming crit and overwhelming is as good as you will get
and damage bonus blunt doesnt bypass DR - need extra melee damage type blunt

Hmm...that does remind of how for some years, Valefort has been trying to trade/unload a halberd with vamp regen +3. Guess that model is in the Loot Table?

I guess that adamantine halberds are also in the Loot Table now, as well.

But BMD brings up a good point of the quality of any weapon being relative to the build.

I have an Epic Polearm from the loot table. It is EB+4, Bludgeoning +1d4 (I think ... it's bludgeoning, it's been a while since I looked) and deflection AC +4. That's probably one of the best I've seen. If I ever get back in game you can borrow it ... for a piece of your SOUL!!!!

...so its a +4 EB halberd is what youre sayin :P

because deflection AC has three other spots it can go and fighters are not that needy where those spots are locked up with something better

a halberd with EB and shield AC is what i need

Not really ... extra damage is extra damage. Not all foes have DR (most don't) and the deflection AC essentially frees up another slot. You could have something else there like + universal saves which is important for a fighter, or a variety of other options. Definitely better than a plain +4 EB Halberd!

Well boyos, you're both right.

An EB+4 halberd is a quality weapon, and in the hands of the right Build, deadly enough to any foes it encounters. But two +4 bonuses on any Item is truly the peak of Item power, and not to be easily dismissed. If I remember correctly, it has been a Server Rule to never provide or create an Item that has better than +4/+3 or +3/+2/+2 bonus combos, for static Ability and Enhancements. Having a top tier EB bonus plus a max Enhancement like Deflection on one weapon, is pretty stellar. Though rightly so, having a +4 Shield bonus would be much better than a +4 Defl. because Shield bonus isn't available on Rings or Helmets, like Deflection is.

Like the Rapiers found in Roaringshore, if a all pole arms and spears would also have a Shield attribute/bonus, it would be rather fantastic. But I'm not going to hold my breath on that addition any time soon.

@Hammer: my soul ain't that valuable so I think you're going to get short end of this deal! :ugeek:

Would a 1d4 bludgeoning extra dmg weapon bonus really get blocked by bludgeoning DR? I know this would seem logical, but seem to recall that such extra dmg actually adds to the weapon type dmg in practice. Can anyone experienced clear this up?

pretty sure that is the case but thats one of those things that you have to use the combat debugger for and i cant remember what the result was last time

like i said pretty sure tho, thats why you want extra melee damage type and not just extra damage

but if im remembering it right, against something without DR it works as advertised with the extra damage being added in but against DR it doesnt qualify to bypass because it references the base weapon for bypassing DR with damage types
