Hi everyone, I was thinking about starting up a brand new character, a wizard type. I was thinking hin and was looking to style him to be like a enchanter/summoner possibly, like a support character with little magics revolving around direct damage. does anyone have any idea's? ive been off the server for a good long time and I know there have been many changes to the spell lists and new classes added. perhaps someone could point me in a good direction for a character styled like this?

Maybe some sorcerer thaumaturge kind of gish? Use your spells to buff yourself and all your summons and potential companions.

BAB 24, CL 29 and works for any race... You will want to have at least enough STR for decent AB, enough DEX for whatever armor you chose to wear and enough INT to cast your spells. After that there is a lot of room for you to have fun with the build. For example you could go 14 STR/ 14 DEX and max INT (~26, 30 w/ fox cunning). You'll want CE and Combat Insight(epic) for INT to damage. As and added bonus your focus on conjuration spells and high INT will make you have some pretty solid DCs on some of your cloud spells.
In this example your Attack bonus would be 24 (BAB) + 4 (STR w/ Bulls) + 5 (EB) + 4 (Greater Heroism) = 37 so you'd likely need to use Tenser's in some area's, but Haste could get you to 38 as well and of course you might have the feats to grab weapon focus and/or epic prowess if you really wanted.
Acid Cloud DC each round would be 10 + 6 (spell level) + 10 (INT) + 3 (Epic Caster Level 29) + 3 (Epic Spell Focus Conjuration) = 32 which ain't bad considering you are partly a gish. On top of this since you're a Thaumaturge with Epic Conjurations you have stronger summons which when buffed should be beefy enough to supplement you very well in PvE.
For AC you're looking at ~ 10 +16 (Mithril Chainmail, Cats Grace, IMA) + 5 (Spiderskin) + 8 (Dodge/Deflection) + 4 (Deez) + 2 (Heavy Shield) + 3 (Tumble) = 48 which might be a bit lower than the 50 AC target, but as a wizard that is actually fine cuz you have mirrors and deez/displacement to protect you.
Not the strongest way to build... As always focusing on either being a caster or a gish is going to be superior in terms of 'power'. However, it's a cool concept Deathgrowl gave you so I thought I'd expand on it a bit.
Of course you could leave INT at ~16 or 17 (20 w/ item) and maximize your STR in order to have better attack bonus and damage at the expense of your cloud spells not really being as beneficial. Of course INT doesn't impact strength of your summons so (especially if you aren't good at aiming where to place clouds) STR may be a more fun option for you. I just gave the INT version as an example since it actually does 3 things relatively well (clouds for damage, melee tank/damage and summons).

I mixed wizard Master Alchemist and thaumaturge (and pale master ) together once. It is not a power build technically, but had a lot going on.
- A scroll wand Potion elixir maker
- lobber of pretty much unlimited alchemist fire.
- two tough super buffed minion at her side.
- a wide variety of spells with decent dc and buffs for players.
Its really nice being able to save spell slots by just crafting the spells you need.
And she was a lot of fun! She was good in a party, or solo. She always has something to do...regarding spells or crafting. This game can have periods where things get boring. It was refreshing with this character because when things got dull, she could always work on her crafting stuff.
I stopped playing her because I was uncomfortable playing a pretty elf female (being in reality, an ugly human male). Folk actually hit on her, which was awkward for me. Heheh.
I got her into the 20's. And she was very tough. I think her pets would have been useful right up to endgame content but am not 100% sure. A buffed elder elemental is pretty strong. But even the highest planer binding spell is effective when they are all buffed out. But can you solo the frost giants?
Most likely not...Id still get a party.
I would consider making your toon a high DC wizard as apposed to a say a blaster. You will be using a lot of your spells as buffs so you wont have a whole lot of extra slots to spare. Plus my alchemist had alchemist fire to blow things up with. So think about schools with nice save or die spells (transmutation is my fav). Then try to build with high DC in mind. Turning someone into a rabbit or into stone is extremely satisfying!
And halflings are a lot of fun. Warning though, you will find the tall folk will not take you seriously- you will have to work on it. If you want to be taken seriously or have lots of attention, then roll a tall, pretty, blond. I know...
...even in a video game!

is it possible to exceed CL 30? or is it hard capped at 30 max?

you can exceed CL30.... Archmage has feats called spellpower (1, 2, 3) which will increase your CL by 1 for each selection. Blood Magus has an ability that gives + 1 CL and another ability that will give another +2 (for +3 total). Shadow Adept increases CL and DC for Necromancy, Illusion and Enchantment spells. Red Wizard increases CL for specialty school... There are others as well. It is important to note that the bug in vanilla where Practiced Caster allowed you to exceed 30 is fixed on this server, so you can't take Eldritch Knight and then take PSC to end up with over 30 CL.

so with a wizard familiar you can take control of it, does that mean you can see through its eyes? im leaning more towards rp heavy then a power build and I have the idea to be a blind halfling wizard that uses his familiar as his eyes, but I don't want to go there if a wizard does not have power over the familiar in such a way.
