It's an interesting class for some non sneak focused dex builds and not everyone likes to play hipsters :snooty:

It allows to get e-dodge with monk or acrobat builds. And a 4 level dip is quite useful for WM builds.

Makes sense.

I get that not everyone likes to play hipsters. Kind of fishing around for a non hipster alt build myself. I really like the concept of the whirling dervish, but with rogue as my base it doesn't seem to do much for me.

What is a good level of pickpocket to settle on? Or is there any reason to max it?

slight of hand is one of those skill where you need to figure out why you want it in the first place

if you just want it for rp then put some ranks it but you wont need a lot if you later decide you want the points elsewhere

if you want to actually use it and rob people then you need to max it out, you dont need gear per se, but it is countered by spot so you need to be able to have a decent chance of putting it off against the average person at a minimum

For me it's really more about robbing various enemies and/or NPCs. Not so much other players. Do you get more gold from, say an average citizen, if you have a higher sleight of hand skill?

its scripted and i cant remember what does what to who

i do remember that its scripted that you cant steal items from players and you can only PP a player once or twice per server reset and its on a 30 or 60 cooldown

and there was some extended script that was added that if someone spots you it calls for help... was super annoying and it was broken when it first went in so im not sure if that one is still enabled

it make the skill unbearable to use so i stopped bothering :?

anyway point being its so controlled no one has any reason to complain about its use against them, but its more about what you are trying to get out of it

but as far as gold from players, completely random it seemed like, sometimes i could get 100ish gold from someone and other times id only get like 10ish gold

Questions about blinding strike... I was playing with it in jegs, both it and expose weakness are wonky in that thing.

My question is this: Let's say you have expose weakness toggled on, and you activate blinding strike... will blinding strike un-toggle/switch off expose weakness? I'm trying to figure out if it's an 'either or' situation if you have both feats. I imagine it would get a little tricky to alternate between the two abilities if it were.

Also, does this feat drag you out of stealth like expose? I'm assuming it does.

They work both at the same time.

A couple of quick opinions from some veteran rogues if you will...

For a new build:

1) short sword or kukri? I'm thinking specifically about belts in the epic store. I have a non epic feat to spare. Could take improved crit on short sword and use belt of growth. Or I could use a ring of might and the belt that gives stealth bonus along with improved crit kukri. So I'd take martial weapon proficiency for my extra feat.

I've noticed extra crit range helps when dealing with crazy high ACs. Not so much the crit damage itself, just the added ability to land my sneak attacks more often.

Is the extra crit range for the kukri worth the stat hit from not using the belt of growth? Along with the extra skill bonuses?

I'm sure I could make either work, just want some opinions.

2) how important is wisdom? Plan on having slippery mind. I could go as low as 8 or as high as 14 (16 with the deep gnome badge ). I've heard some people say get all the help with will saves you can, and others say by the end game your will saves are so bad a few stat points won't make a difference.

Opinions on that?

Ok another question for people who may have crunched the numbers. All things being equal otherwise (ptwf, epic dodge, etc) 13d6 sneak attack or 12d6 + blinding speed?

Will I even notice much difference?

I’ve ignored blinding speed before because I can always carry haste pits but I’m building a roguish alt to level with some friends so I’m thinking of trying something a little different.

1d6 its not something a rogue notices once you are past certain points, the damage range is way too wide; 12-72 vs 13-78 in sneak damage, you will probably average about 48-72 vs 52-78, its not enough to care for a rogue since your actual damage will be all over the place

if you want the feat then take it

Cool, thanks for the reply. Another thing I was thinking was that I’d use my one pick ‘em pre epic feat to get weapon focus dagger (making a dagger specialist) so that plus the haste bonus would give me +10% to land my sneak attacks. Might help the dps burst.

Do you happen to know if the extra haste attack is applied at your highest AB or lowest since it comes at the end of your main hand flurry.
